So how will I go about this without a generic "Thanks for the money".... this person is really frugal, I that mean really that she hates it when she gives money to anyone and for some reason she gave me out of pity because the state I am in??? Not even my parents will give me anything on my birthday and my friends expect me to spend the money on them (Yeah I'm going spend it on the bills not on you).

So here what I got so far

    "Dear Aunt XXXX,

I really appreciate the present you have given me on my on coming birthday. I know how hard to come-by money from the US and I hope I will repay the kindness that you have shown me.

Praying for your health and success your nephew XXXX"

---------I want this thank you to be worth something, I don't want my birthday to be a reminder that I am a burden to my relatives. Also we are not that close so this is a BIG SURPRISE

    Criticisms and Ideas appreciated

I would suggest to just call her and just do it over the phone but I'm guessing you don't live in the US so it's a lot cheaper to mail a letter? In that case just send her a nice post card with a short message written by YOU. Don't worry about writing anything fancy because it's the thought that really counts. I'm sure she'll be really happy to get something back from you. What you have up there is pretty good but I would take out the "I know how hard to come by money from the US" because after all it is your birthday. Are you going to be writing this in English or your language?

come-by should be come by. It's not a hyphenated word.

    Dear Aunt X

Thank you so much for thinking of me on my birthday and sending me the generous birthday present. I want you to know that this gift will help me out tremendously. It could not have come at a better time. I plan on using this money to help me pay for (whatever it is you will use it for). You have really spoiled me. I hope to see you soon and and wish you the very best.

    Thank you again.
    Your spoiled nephew, (Name)

Thanks for the reply, she really liked it that she gave another $50.00, I now have extra money for groceries.

boozie's copy writing helped you make an upsell, I see? :D

It's quite a heart-warming message and I can see why your aunt went out of her way to give you an extra $50.
