    Hi,
I was searching for a domain and found one domain 2 word domain with 50k exact searches but when i add hyphen in between both the word that domain is available and google keyword tool shows 22k GMS exact searches.

    Example:

domainname.com Has 50k Exact GMS (Already Registered)
domain-name.com has 22k Exact GMS (Available)

Do you think its a good idea to register the hyphen domain and its easy to rank it as without hyphen domain.

    Thanks

From google's perspective, hyphens are easier to parse than non-hyphens. However, they see multiple hyphens as spammy and may penalize those somewhat (small).

It is really the user perspective where hyphens hurt because people are just used to typing keywordkeyword instead of keyword-keyword and they forget as well. And when they are scanning down a list of results they may be more likely to click on the non-hyphen version. Maybe. Depends on the user.

But especially if you are just focused on search engine ranking and not branding a product hyphens are fine.

    I say go for it.

Personally: I don't like hyphens in domains. Sure, there are some websites with hyphens that are strong, with great rankings...but many people think they look spammy.

What I would do is: as long as the exact match .net and .org are available, register both of these.

Use the .org as your main domain and set up a 301 redirect from the .net over to the dot org.

IMHO, dot org domains are just behind dot coms in their ability to rank easily.

Usually google adwords shows the same result for the keyword with and without dash, could you tell me how you managed to get different results, I'm actually very interested in that.
    Thanks.

I don't like using hyphens and put a letter in the end if com/net/org are taken (not sure it's a better strategy though), but if you have available org/net go for one of them... even why don't you buy both and apply different SEO tactics...

Otherwise when you check search traffic in GKWT and put a hyphen between the two words it's equal to put space between them, i.e:
    • dogtraining = one keyword
    • dog-training = dog training = different keyword, so it's normal to get different traffic.
