An easier/better/safer option if this is long term would be to be in control of your own UK bank account (obviously). I know it's not easy to achieve that if you don't live here but I do have a suggestion. Anyone in the UK can get a prepaid Cashplus card and they now come with bank sort code and account number so that you can use it like a regular bank account. If you could get someone you know here to get one for you- really you just need them to agree for you to have the card sent to their address- then they can post it to you and you can control it entirely yourself with online log-in etc.
Just a suggestion that would be worthwhile if you're doing this long-term.
Another possibility would be to open a HSBC Passport account. They are accounts for people who are not UK resident but are planning to come to the UK.
I'm not sure whether you would get approved, but it would be worth giving HSBC a call and asking them.
Surely they can send the money to your Paypal account.
I'll help you out. Shoot me a PM.
I haven't heard about that cashplus card before, that sounds really good actually, will look into this. Thankyou. Yeah I am doing this long term.
Anyone have a UK address I could get something sent to lol?
Thanks man but I think I'll just try and get that cashplus card that cataratas mentioned, would be a lot safer for me overall, although I know you are a trusted member
OP, many Irish Banks have branches in England and vice versa, can't you just get a Family member to open an account/accept payment for you?
Yeah I was going to get a sterling bank of Ireland account, it requires you to go to northern Ireland or any part of UK open an account though! Was talking to my local bank of Ireland manager and he was all like you don't need a UK account for that job, just give your boss your IBAN no. So I believed him and moved to Portugal. So I can't create an account until I go back home for a holiday , there's no way you can get someone else to create an account for you.,
I have a feeling that now iv mentioned Portugal, MickyFu is gonna drop by and call me a bullshitter
Well, the IBAN should work, if I was you, you should contact the person you are doing the work for and try to get them to be a little flexible. Can't they pay you via PP?
Any reason why they can't pay an Irish account ? (none of my business !)
What part of Portugal are you in ? AIB and BOI definitely have branches in the Algarve.
nah my boss is a fussy bitch.. she said it was because she was sending it using some payment system for UK banks, it was something called like BIC transfer.. she said will only work for UK accounts with acc no and sort code.. TBH i think they are just trying to fuck with me because its over a month and they haven't really tried that hard to pay me. so just trying to get some uk bank sorted asap to see if they will actually pay..Nope no Paypal or skril..
because something to do with my sort code not being the same as a UK bank so their automated payment system won't send..
yeah i am in the algarve, Really? boi are over here? is that just in faro or other large towns? thats good to know though, thanks
IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. It's a way of identifying a bank account which cuts down errors and delays in international payments.
You need to use an IBAN when you make a cross border payment in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
When you use an IBAN, you must also use a Bank Identifier Code (BIC).
A BIC (Bank Identifier Code) is the SWIFT Address assigned to a bank in order to send automated payments quickly and accurately to the banks concerned. It uniquely identifies the name and country, (and sometimes the branch) of the bank involved. BICs are often called SWIFT Codes and can be either 8 or 11 characters long. Your BIC can be found on the top right corner of your account statement.
Bank of Ireland's BIC is BOFIIE2D.
Does that help?
thanks, but i did give all that info to my boss, IBAN and BIC .. but she said it wouldn't work.. i really appreciate your willingness to help though
This thread tells me so much about this forum. OP is offering to send cash to someone's bank account and the community responds with helpful alternatives.
this could so easily have gone wrong for you but It makes me happy to see so much honesty and helpful advice here. this really is a great community of people.
yes i agree, i don't think i have seen anther forum where the community are so willing to help and provide answers and not just trying to get at my money.. I fucking love this place man..
Panoush, I'm sure by now you have had a look at Cashplus. I took the opportunity to go to their website to make sure it remains suitable and I see that once you get the main card you can then get one in Euros and link the 2. It looks great for you really. I have used them in the past over a period of years. Let us know how you get on.
As old fashion as this sounds, have you asked if they can send you a cheque?
What about Payoneer... I have one to get US affiliate payments and I think the charges are a lot more less than cash plus cards.
