Just go to Fiverr if you aren't interested in paying a real rate for the work. No one's going to give you high quality for "just a few $$."

That's the main thing I see in these threads: "it won't take long, so I'm not paying much.' The only problem with this reasoning is, it's not up to you to say how long something will take to do right, it's the designer who determines that.
You can get decent logos from Fiverr, if you don't mind that the resulting logs look like clip art, and don't stand out from any other logo. Those guys use software like AAA Logo. They are basically working from templates. That's the only way it's economical for them to do logos for $4.
