I'm looking to register a new domain and think I found a really good one.

The product I'm promoting is in the adult enhancement niche (male enhancement pills etc). The domain name I want to register sounds perfect but there's a couple of possible issues.

    • the domain was used as a porn site for 1 year.. this was approx 6 years ago
    • the domain was used to spread some kind of iframe malware 5 years ago

I wasn't able to find any backlinks with ahrefs. The domain is like 11 years old and hasn't been registered for the last 4 years.

I'm wondering if this is an ok domain to buy and if it's ok for SEO?

    Any advice?

Make sure the domain is not de-indexed by google by entering site:www.domain-name.com.
If you can see the domain on search result you just go for it.
I don't think you will face any problem on using this domain.

I think if you do a search in Google with "site:domainname.com" and nothing is returned there is a pretty good chance that the site has been removed from their index.I don't if this is working accurate.but lot of people using it.Try this one too

It doesn't show up in Google. The thing is it hasn't been registered in 5 years. Wouldn't that mean it would naturally get deindexed?

Hm same as above. If it hasn't been registered or used in so long I think Google would deindex it even if it had a clean link profile right?

Basically just for the name. It's 8 characters in a really competitive niche. It's not an exact match domain but it just sounds like a really good trustable/brandable name.

I'd just find a new name. With so many sites getting penalized these days, why risk it?
Say you get it, and start building a site and doing SEO, and you rank, but just rank 'okay'. Unless you get to say top 20, you're going to question whether or not the site was hit with something.

I bought a decent domain off godaddy auctions with a pretty small niche. Created about 50 pages of content. Did some SEO, and it I couldn't get more than 10 visitors a day to it. It was a decent domain, and was sold for cheap. So in back of my mind all I can think is tha the only explanation is that it was penalized. You dont' want to be in a position like that, it's not good for the mind.

I would just start from scratch with a new domain. Could be penalized?
