I have tried but I could never get it to work. I'll try it again later though. Also is it easy to transfer the code between windows and mac compilers?

GNU gcc/g++ (or llvm clang). Standard GNU c++ toolchain for Darwin BSD (Mac OS X) will get the job done.

Porting native Win32 API or MFC c++ code to Mac OS X is something you certainly don't want to get stuck with. You'll need a cross platform framework.

There are several choices out there but, I'd go with QT: mature, well supported, brilliantly designed and totally looking native on each OS. Nokia (they're the owners) should have an entire IDE for Apple mac too.
