Any suggestions on this? Would it be best to do wp blog style with info/news stories about the tournaments with adsense? or affiliate with some ticket site such as stubhub and just use the page as a ticket selling page. Or maybe combo of both? Does anyone have any better ideas?

I dont have a domain targeted at the 2010 worldcup but i do have 2014worldcuptickets and 2022worldcuptickets .coms. They are along time away but id maybe like to build them up get them ranked for the years before the tournaments come around. There is plenty of news already even related to the 2022 worldcup everyday so in football(soccer) terms, 2014 is not that long away.

lol 2014 seems like a long way to go and 2022, thats like 12 years from now.
You got to be out of your mind.

The internet is changing at an amazing rate.

You just never know what will work in that many years, there is a reason why ppl dont register domains that far. You better off doing the 2010 world cup or even 2012 .

there is no 2012 worldcup lol. Yeah 2022 is very far but 2014 is not and once the summer ends thats the next worldcup with qualifiers starting.

Alot of future event sites are gone i just did a quick random search and wrestlemania50 and every one till then is gone. I think the last wrestlemania was 26 or something. thats along way ahead. Same with worldcups 2040worldcup is gone.

But the name isnt the issue 2014 is very soon in terms of the world cup.

Cool0403 there is no 2012 world cup, it's every 4 years, but if anyone hasn't hopped on 2012 london olympics they may want to.....

At any rate Stephen I think selling the actual ticket packages would be great and also doing some linking to amazon products related to World Cup (eg. jerseys, team flags, autographed prints, etc) might be a good bet.

AdSense is a nice thing to add, but unless you have some bang up traffic it's going to be hard to profit big from only adsense.

If you are going for 2010 fans at all, your best bet right now may be to link to travel destination packages in South Africa or surrounding hotels via a travel affiliate because most already have their ticket package purchased but may still look to do other things while visiting.

You are a GENIUS for getting on the 2014 matches already because of their location in BRASIL what many think is the world capital of football (soccer, futbol, whatever). I would DEFINITELY get moving on pushing some other travel packages and places to see while visiting the 2014 World Cup. I have visited and if you want to push people to the Ibiza of Brasil start advertising Florianopolis... such an amazing little place for nightlife and will probably be a HUGE hit during the World cup months.

Since Brasil has such historic history in soccer you may want to link to some soccer DVD's and historical books from amazon affiliate.

I still think ticket packages will be your best bet. I think if you begin doing some heavy SEO on your 2014 site and you show how high you are ranking I suggest contacting some of the major high end concierge services as well and ask what yield they can pay you to promote their specialized packages. These sites would include Quintessentially, Presidential Inner Circle, and The Bluefish.

Best of luck... and I will be at this year's and the 2014 (if the world doesn't end), so maybe see you all there!

    :D

I had a crappy small scale idea of simply using zip/email submit offers relating to football and advertising them on your site but Cadkins45 idea is a much better bet in my opinion.

All depends on how much work you want to put into it.

I'll give away a goldmine here:p so i better get some thanks!

One VERY good way to make money on these events is ACCOMMODATIONS ... better yet you don't have to compete with Hotels, travelocity, and all the other big shots.

Promote "Hostels" ... it's a cheap alternative, extremely popular at all major destinations, such as the south africa 2010 world cup... it's very easy to market to students and the like because unlike regular Hotels, these are very affordable, widely available, and sell in bulk! Usually to groups of 10-20.

Here's a site where you can become an affiliate and promote hostels at 3,000 locations worldwide I believe... so if you're doing world cup, go for those, and it's not even too late to promote hostels in South Africa, in fact this is the best time (when other popular accommodations get sold out or too expensive because it's so close to the event date)

    Code:
    https://secure.hostelbookers.com/aff/join/
