    1. Make a contest.
The reward can vary from cold cash to virtual gift.

    2. Make facebook / myspace / myyearbook profiles and add as many friends as possible,
    then promote your game.

    3. Promote through forum / mailing list

A referral system could work great. Maybe you could implent a system where a user gets for example some gold or special items for every referred player.

I recently (withing the last 6 months) played an active Legend of the Green Dragon site. It was popular because it was advertised in a particular forum (Sh4cknews), and a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon to play together and against each other. They're a game loving and geeky crowd.

You have to put yourself into an active community that would appreciate a remake of a classic BBS game. Find a good geek forum to pitch your website, because random traffic isn't going to appreciate it enough to play. Just my thoughts.

    Good luck.

Thanks for all the input :) I actually already implemented a referal system that gives every user 25 refer points (can be used on items) once that user reached level 3 :)

What's the game? Im interested. i've been thinking about creating flash games and getting them sponsored (I did this once back in 2002). Its been years since I've coded in flash but game design is a passion of mine, I just don't enjoy the coding. Have you tried MochiAds? I know they plaster ads all over Newgrounds games and I see ads for Maple Story and other MMOs on their network. I don't know if they are CPM or PPC based.

Just realized you are talking about a different kind of game than what I had been blabbing about. Sorry for the irrelevant double post

Not to shit on your parade but what's LOGD? I've only ever known it as LORD. I use to run home from school and dialup all afternoon trying to get on my local board so i could play my days worth of LORD.

Anyway, these types of games are largely dependent on having many other people to play against, the fewer you have, the less interest their will be, less reason for other people to play. You may need to set up some dupe accounts and play them yourself to get it going.

There are lots of bbs available on telnet that run LORD ladders as well, which might attract a lot more of your potential traffic.

This would probably go over well as a facebook app or something similar, tons of middle aged folk who would jump at the chance to play LORD on Facebook imo.

LOGD is the web-based remake of LORD. Very similar to the original, but no BBS required. Written in php if I remember correctly.

"Welcome to Legend of the Green Dragon, a browser based role playing game, based on Seth Able's Legend of the Red Dragon."

Decided on a few promoting things today:
-Gonna move the db to a new server tomorrow so the referal codes will work for every user
-Installed new modules to get users to invite their friends (clan family benefits, buffs, free items)
    - Deciding right now if i want to have a public contest with a price of maybe $30-40 for the most referred users (they have to reach level 5 to count as a referal..just to keep the fake accounts away) or if i want to spent that money on a good xrummer blast =/

If there are some big fans of the game.. I can always use some help :p
