I need a name for a company/site that would be suitable for all sorts of services from web design/web management to computer repairs, etc. Though I can't seem to find anything that I would personally like. I've had a few ideas and actually bought a domain or two but after sometime the ideas sound/look/feel childish. I'm in search of something that would look/feel professional. Maybe something to do with the word media? As it could then be used for IM as well? I'm out of ideas...

Are you planning on advertising and doing local work? if so, let me know about keywords and i'll pm you a list i can think of, I tend to be rather creative so i doubt we'll have a problem :).

Did you look at Brandings and so? Most of nice domains are already taken, the good news is some of then are for sale.

Choosing the good name is thought task, but.... i love the goddady example - simple name that means nothing - and this does not stop them to be one of the most popular hosting and domain company.

Sometimes choosing a general made up name is smarter, than integrating a keyword in it.

It's too bad to look for a name that U personnaly like, u better chose something that ur costumers will like!
Do some researches about the costumer avatare, and know what's ur costumer avatare than start looking for a Name.
Try to take a name that's stick in the brain of people who read it! It will be half of your marketing work. Here are some brands that had a lot of succes with their names: Eminem, M&Ms, Kodak, Marilyn Manson, Coca Cola, Nine In Nails, blackberry... it helped them a lot in the marketing.
Personnaly I use the same strategy for my business (offline) My new one is: RavenVox, it stick in their minds!
Add me on skype it will be a pleasur to check this with you bro.

By personally like I meant something that would sound/look/feel professional. Brand names are built over time and don't come from nothing. The brands/names you have listed haven't been made up randomly because they sound good... It seems that you either don't know what you are talking about or you just can't seem to express yourself properly.

Hey ShadeDream, I ended up naming my site2sale because it was a shortcut of what I was basically doing - building websites to bring in sales for local businesses.

I bet if you brainstorm about what your goal is at the end of the day, you'll find a couple interesting idea names.

Some were, some aren't, The term "Coca Cola" originates from the actual ingredients for example(CC used to be made from Coca Leaves if you didn't know).

Whatever it is, i think it matters less, mashing two keywords that sound well is not hard at all,and okay, finding something you like/ Came from you, and has a special meaning/conatation above it, is GREAT.

Those names was just exemples, there's tons of BIG brands that have names that doesn't sound good and that we can't remember with ease like those ones.
and by the way that's not my conclusions but big marketing guru's and businessmen's one. People that started from scratch and that are making Millions a day...And I used it for my small offline businesses and it works pretty well dude. Just remeber if ever you think big and want to grow your business, the name is a big part of marketing too. Anyway good luck
PS: Yes I know my english sucks :D

Yes mainly local work, not really looking at integrating any keywords into the name unless I can do that and still come up with a nice name.

Yes I have looked into creating a brand name but I would like something more generic at this time. So that if the business works out well I can later on sell it off or progress forward and slowly change the name into something that could be brandable.

    lol

Your English is definitely good enough. :)

I'm not sure what you meant by this post as it proves me right. "Coca Cola" did not come from nothing, and it became a brandable name over the years. Back in the days, I'm pretty sure that not many people knew what "Coca Cola" was.

I don't like the name I came up with because the .com is taken. Need a fresh idea and it's killing me because it's proving really hard to find a good name.
