I rarely mess with excerpts unless the theme I'm using requires one.

Man... ive found that with the way google treats wordpress(rubs it, kisses it, loves it) a great... i mean GREAT idea is to use long tail keywords as your article titles. Your site may not rank on page one(or maybe it will) but when you have 40-50 articles ranking on page one for the long tails you will end up getting more traffic than if you were ranked on page one for your main keyword. So find those long tail, low competition keywords... use them as article titles and watch what happens.

Settings box on bottom left of admin panel. Click the permalinks link and put that in the custom structure box. You don't need the .html though. %postname% is enough.

Get the wordpress all-in-one SEO plugin. It's free.

her ya go step by step

change permissions to .htaccess to 777 (optional)

    go to admin
lower left side click on settings - permalinks
    click the custom button
    in the box put

/%postname%/ ( if you want it be domain.com/my-content-post/

    or

/%postname.html (if you want it to be domain.com/my-content-post.html

    Click save
Reset your .htaccess file back to 644

    And there ya have it

You dont have to set your .htaccess to 777 if you decide you want to update it with the code they give you.
