Hi guys, this is my first post and i've been reading through the forums for a bit now and i decided i should probably post my problem because i know some of you are quite helpful. So first of all, I've been having quite a hard time with my blog because i seem to not rank whatsoever. I mean, I don't have a bunch of articles, and my blog is concentrated on personal finance, and saving and making money in general, which from what I know is pretty competitive. Though, my articles don't seem to be ranking at all, like i don't even have one viewer per day. I'm using Wordpress and i'm using the MH magazine lite theme. Although, I'm not even sure how to structure my site, and I'm not too sure what the best way is to post my articles. From what i see if i search for specific articles on google from my own site, for example i'll type down "Wealthysaver how to get a first job." (my site is called wealthysaver and one of my articles is called how to get a first job.) And I won't even get a direct link to the article, it'll send me to the "first jobs archives" and then i have the option to click on my article. Anyways, I'm kind of frustrated, but definitely don't want to give up. I just seem to be having problems and having no views is kinda frustrating as well. If anyone could offer their two cents on this, it'd be super appreciated, thank you!

Also, It'd be appreciated if anyone could take a look at my site and let me know what i should improve or what not. I feel like my site is pretty lackluster and could use some help.

Well, your site is like 11 days old (judging by the post dates)... have you told anyone about it? Got any social media accounts for it, like a FB page and a Twitter account? That might help you get 1 or 2 visitors a day to start out with if you share your stuff on there.

Looks pretty good so far, but yeah, do what W130SN said.

A few questions. I do have a FB fan page for the site in question, although how do I get people to see or even like the page? I don't necessarily want to advertise it on my own personal page. Secondly how long would it take to rank a post? I've tried using as much seo knowledge as I've learned and from what I've seen, the amount of a specific keyword isn't necessarily important, but rather related keywords, is that correct? Furthermore, you I've heard people post on forums about their website by genuinely answering questions and contributing to the forums, but by posting a link to their site when convenient. Are there any forums that I could use to my advantage to implement this strategy? Thanks again for the contributions everyone!

Catchier titles and long tail keyword targeting could help as well. Instead of "how to get a first job" do something like "get your first job now in a failing economy" or "how to nail your first job interview with 3 simple steps" etc.. Don't be so boring. Some long tails you could also do is "how I saved $200 a month in water bills by using plastic cups" or something like that... Hope you get the idea. My main strategy now is targeting many long tail keywords and it works beautifully.

Thanks for the tip! Although, from your experience, do catcher and long-tail keywords work better than regular short ones? I mean aren't more people searching for typical ones such as "how to get a first job"? So wouldn't you typically get more views for those? Sorry if the question may seem very obvious, still learning!

You will get more views with basic keywords like that if you are top 3 or front page, but financial and money niche is pretty competetive that's why you aren't seeing traffic. Do some kw research and target some long tails, not sure how you are monetizing but factor that in as well. Go for the patch of least resistance.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I was wondering if you have any toola you use to preform your long-tail keyword research? Secondly, how do you correctly use seo to rank those long tails? Do you actually need to include the entire long-tail in the article numerous times or do you use related terms? Cause from what I read now a days, in order to rank you need to use words that are related to your keyword. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. Lastly, I plan on monetizing with adsense as its already set up on my site, but I was wondering if I could monetize using clickbank with the long-tail keywords? Do you think there are any clickbank offers for the money niche? Thanks again!

Personally I wouldn't have a Newest Post Category or a Featured Category as your newest post should always show up first and it will also show in your recent posts widget.

Have the same items listed in your sidebar, change "making money" to "Making Money"

Try to add more content every couple of days for the next month/6 weeks.
Before you start working on offpage SEO (link building) make sure your onpage SEO is great.
    http://backlinko.com/on-page-seo
    https://moz.com/learn/seo/on-page-factors

Join Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and start accounts/pages for your site.
Add this plugin to Wordpress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/social-networks-auto-poster-facebook-twitter-g/
Set it up to autopost to your accounts when you publish new material.

After 6 weeks you should have a decent amount of content and can then start link building.

    Check your site with WooRank
    https://www.woorank.com/

Don't worry about the amount of traffic you are receiving at this point, it is your first site so it will take time to build up.
Also you have chosen a very competitive niche and it may be very hard to make a decent income from it at this stage.
Don't give up, use this site as a learning tool and then when you are ready to make more sites you will have more knowledge and experience.

    Good Luck

Yeah, you have so much to learn that following the W130SN advice seems to be pretty spot on. You need to familiarize yourself with the basics of seo, keyword research or website marketing and promotion to even have a productive discussion on what's wrong with your website and why it does not get any traffic. Otherwise, seems to me that you start with the basic premise of if i make a website then i should have visitors coming to it from google, which is a fallacy, as the web is far too big and there are way too many websites to be able to attract an audience without any marketing plan behind.
