This sounds like it was ordered by Gúgl, probably using Panda or Penguin.

You can trace it quite easily. Log in to your FTP server and tap the hash (#) key 17 times.

    1) You will likely never know
    2) You can find this out by looking at the links being generated...
    3) He could easily do it himself, or go to fiverr and order it
    4) lol seriously? The chances of you finding out are slim to none unless you really really analyze it, and get lucky (ie he didn't use proxies and you can reverse look it up somehow and get very lucky finding the person who did it...). Even if you do, it's irrelevant...
    5) Absolutely nothing... welcome to Penguin
    6) See #5

Lol at first glance i thought your site were being hacked by an attacker.

Well if you carefully analyze the things he made, you might come up with some useful info.

Unfortunately there is almost nothing you can do about the situation. The only thing you can do to try to keep your site above water is to constantly build strong (high pr / high quality) backlinks.

is there a chance you're just being totally paranoid?

I ask this, as you've not given any info to indicate someone has been on a neg-seo campaign on you..
why do you think you're being attacked? please give more detail..

for the timescale you describe, fits nicely into google sending out its own hit squads.. panda and penguin...
maybe you've got poor content, poor link work and/or have poor/excessive seo methods yourself in the past and you've been eaten by penguin?
