Don't make it fake info. Either register it to you or pay the extra few $ to make it a private registration.

+1 for this answer - if you have concerns - hide the information who owns the domain (but that always costs few greens)

Register your domains at Internetbs and you would get free whois protection for life (as long as you keep renewing the domains).

In my honest opinion, there is no reason to be cheap with domains. Go through somebody reputable like godaddy that has added features like DNS, domain management, etc. Having managed hundreds of domains that have been across many providers in the past, I can honestly say the time you save in management by having them in one location is way greater than the money saved by searching for cheap registrars.

Use WhoIs protection, almost every reputable domain registrar offers it, at an additional fee of course but it's not too expensive. I know that NameCheap offers discounts on bulk WhoIs protection packs as well so if you have a lot of domains, much cheaper.

Most if not all registrars offer whois protection, use it if you want to conceal this information. I don't think that using fake information and letting the domain info be accessible to all is the best way. It all depends on what you're planning to do with the domain.
