I'm looking to host about 100 autoblogs.

Currently I have a few with hostwinds and have been quickly nailed with cpu usage warnings; atm it's looking like I can only hold 1 or 2 blogs at the max with their $5.50 shared hosting plan.

I am kind of avoiding looking into a vps option because I've never used one for hosting a site before and don't really want to waste more time learning the ropes/dealing with issues of how to use one. Plus this project is new and not a big earner yet.

What I am wondering is if there is any comparable hosts to hostwinds that offer slightly higher cpu usage? Even if I could only hold 2 for sure autoblogs per host I could always open 50 shared hosting accounts ($300-400/month).

Unless someone strongly recommends a vps for this, I would rather stick to the ease of shared hosting.

Unless your 100 autoblogs are already receiving decent traffic (collectively within the 20-30k/ a day range), it's definitely not the smartest option to open 50 shared hosting accounts. Unless you want them all located on different IPs, this option is very expensive. Your best options are the following:

    1) Find a shared hosting package that allows unlimited addon domains + unmetered bandwidth. You can host all those websites under one shared hosting account. This can, however, lead to CPU usage issues depending on the server's CPU.

    2) Recommended: Get a VPS with a hosting provider that is willing to migrate all your 100 autoblogs (for free or for a reasonable fee) to your virtual server (VPS). It's just that you're not familiar with it. But there are hosting providers, like ourselves, that are willing to set it all up for you.

    I hope this information helped.

AS mentionned above the best solution for you is a managed VPS with a control panel (cPanel for instance).
Therefore you wouldn't need to learn everything about managing a server, it would be cost efficient, straight forward and scalable as well.

well , most hosting providers face same issue , they advertise their smallest hosting plan like '' unlimited '' or with some other crappy huge limits ... truth is ... no one can afford or keep hundreds of sites / clients on such small fees :) ( not when sites consume resources ) . That being said ... vps / dedi will be your only option ... and since you already said you aren't anything close to a techie guy ... that's will be a little bit hard for you ... first option for you will be to get a vps with some kind of control panel ( plesk / cpanel or such ) ... truth is ... even in this situation , your sites will consume resources but at least you will not be able to '' hurt '' other peoples hosted on same node as you too much ... ( because of the isolation environment ) .

All kinds of control panels available today in market have their own troubles ( consume too much resources / vulnerable to various kinds of exploits ) ... truth is ( and no one will rekon easy from any hosting company ) ... best option is to keep always if is possible the servers with less bloatware ... since they ( hosting companies ) most of the time earn commission by upper-selling those panels :) ...

I can help you to install ( for free ) your vps , if you need to move your sites ... must figure best setup for you first .
