Hello, I just spent a ton of time on a website that recently changed ownership, it had great PR but it was UK based. We wanted to rank in US.. problem is, it's a UK site and now we're ranking in UK, not US. Is there a way to tell Google what location we're coming from? I'll pay for answers, please just let me know... I'm desperate. Thanks.

I assume it's not .co.uk (if it is then that's your problem, just get the .com and set up a 301 redirect), so from what I understand there are a couple of reasons why google would think it is a uk site. The first could be the hosting - is it hosted in the UK? If not, it could be due to the number of .co.uk sites linking to your site. If there are a lot of UK sites linking to your site then naturally it would rank higher in UK google search. This however is not a bad thing and won't cause you to be ranked lower in the US - you just need to build backlinks from .com, .net etc a little more.

Add the site to your Google Webmasters account and verify it, then go to dashboard, site configuration, settings, and change geographic target to US.

If your main visitors resources come from a certain country, it will rank higher on that country search engine.
    Something like alexa.
