Honestly i wouldn't go with HostGator because you will end up being suspended.

Hostgator is a seriously bad choice - I got my account suspended because they have such weak hacker protection of customer accounts and they want me to fix their problems by buying more of their BS services like IP addresses - so you better do some more research.

With the shared hosting plans it is not really about traffic, it is more about the limit on 25 processes. I ran a site that received over a million hits a month plus about 40-50 other sites that averaged about another 500,000+ hits for a total of 1.5 million hits a month.

Only after adding a built in chat mod for PHPBB did I run into trouble. I hit the 25 process limit and this account in question got suspended. I then ordered a VPS (tier 3) and it made things worse. The shared servers are power houses but the VPS are garbage.

After a month of a lot of downtime I finally ordered a Dedicated server. The Pro Dedicated Server for 300$ a month. I got the first month free because of the frustration with the VPS, the chat and phone support being stupid.

I then moved my biggest site over to the dedicated and a few other ones and left all other sites on another baby plan. If your sites are small and you are not hitting the process limit stay with baby. If you need dedicated try another provider because I am paying way more than I should but I can easily afford it and I am paying for the privacy of a well established host provider.

If anonymity is not an issue you can find way better dedicated servers on the cheap here. You should have some server knowledge before going dedicated. Also, hostgator does not allow the use of IRCd so go with hostigation. They are super super cheap and I have had 0 timetime with them (except for an odd server crash but the communication was excellent)

    hope this information helps

Or you can go with a powerful host, that needs customers satisfaction so bad to build up.
