Hello all, I don't have much knowledge on SEO, the most I ever did was minimal onpage with wordpress plugins and bought fiverr/BST backlinking packages. Now, someone I know who is close to me owns a small health product company overseas, and has a website which was created 2 years ago with ZERO backlinking done to it (Sales are made through radio and TV in his country overseas).

I really want to do a good job with SEO on his website, I want this website to explode online, with social marketing too. Someone we spoke to wants $2000 for onpage optimization (website powered by Joomla), and $900 monthly for maintenance and backlink building. This is a very high price to pay, and I know there are offline SEO business owners here that outsource everything with $300 while charging a $1000 premium. I'd really like to get started on doing this process myself, and I'd like to ask some questions if you folks could help me:

    1. How do most of you deal with outsourcing on-page optimization with trusted quality? I mean, who can you trust enough to hand over the username and password to basically your entire business?

    2. Since the site has had no backlinking done to it yet, I'm very paranoid of creating too many backlinks too quick and be penalized for it, I really don't want to screw this one up. I was thinking of buying 50 manually created web 2.0's, creating backlinks to the web 2.0's using social bookmarks, mass blog comments, even creating a tier 3, a wikilinks pyramid to money site, high pr blog commenting and high quality social bookmarks to money site. How would this sound? What pace would you recommend me to work at?

I would really appreciate any recommendations, as I really don't want anything to go wrong. Thank you for those who could give an input :)

In my opinion outsourcing on-page stuff is a no no. On page stuff you should be able to handle yourself and make sure it is done properly. It's not that time consuming in most cases. Also you won't have to give access to your site to anyone you don't know. The only stuff I would outsource for is link building. It's a good idea to start backlinking slow and build velocity, but if the site is old, it's not as bad. Just make sure the links are quality such as press releases, web 2.0s, guest blog posting, some paid links, social book marking, social signals, edu and gov profiles. Use indexing services on your back links like backlinksindexer as well.

These are definitely legitimate concerns, especially if back-linking has not been done. Give me a PM, I'll tell you who I use for outsourcing, and who I trust to get top results. (Its never a good idea to share suppliers on public forums, especially if they are good) Regardless, PM Me. I'll hook you up with some sources.

Realistically I can send spend anywhere in the range of $1000 - $2000 on a new project for several months attaining the desired positions. The cost tends to go down once the positions are established, but with the recent shitstorm the costs only went up. Those are my costs, on the backend, and I charge a premium on my work, so it comes to $2000 per month at least.

Overall I tell you its VERY hard to from my experience to trust SEOs and SEO companies. I can name you a handful which I would trust my site with, and one of them is booked, while others wont look at you with anything less than $1500 a month engagement. The good guys charge in this business. There's also lots of knuckleheads that will SE nuke your site and claim to be SEOs. But they'll charge you only few hundred tho.
