Sorry for my English.
After spending a lot of time (believe me) browsing and playing with Semrush/google search results etc, finally found something ( a set of niches - lot of search volume - only one site as the competition ) . I'm pretty sure I can take at least the 2 - 3 rd spot on search results with good content/onpage seo/ few links for most of the keywords.

2 domains available (.com is not available)
1) .net domain
2). org domain

Yes, I read a lot. TLD does not affect SEO. But But, just help me here. If you are in my place what would be your choice ?
( I read someone said .org gives a very little boost on SEO, not sure if is true )

PS : Adsense will be my main income.

Is the .com of your .net/.org doing the same as you, or is it a parked domain? For me it depends on the status of the .com and what it could be in the future, if parked. Like the domain besttoaster.com is most likely going to be about toasters and if you are selling toasters on a .net then you risk losing traffic/sales

Boo!! Well that stinks. So without prying.. is the domain name something that could be numerous things or is it limited based on the name? Also have you researched the domain ownership - how long have they had it? Anything on the wayback machine? Whois is private? If someone has had the domain parked for years would seem better to me than if they just bought it two weeks ago...

The bottom line for me is that I would be fairly sure that the .com version isn't likely to pop up and compete for my traffic and sales. I know it is hard to have this convo and keep your niche private so I am just trying to give some food for thought. You probably have considered all this but it is good to have your initial thought affirmed at times as it will help point you in the right direction :-)

Good news indeed... In that case I would probably go with a .net because if people accidentally type .com and get nothing I think the next natural step is .net... .org isn't an immediate thought for me but I am just one person :-)

Have you reached out to see if the .com owner is willing to sell? Not sure how much the domain is worth to you but something to consider.

I want to keep the .com owner the way he is now. (doing nothing). When I ask him to sell it, what if it gives him a motivation to start something with the domain ? ( GOD NOOO)

I'll go with .net then.

Agreed - I doubt if he is going to do anything that he hasn't in the last ten years... I would make sure to mark his domain expiration on my calendar to check and see if he lets it go in the future so you can scoop it up if he does.

Good luck!
