I started a website with a friend on 2nd of february. We were posting 15 articles/day each. After two weeks our website reached 1000UV/day with 400 articles. It is some kind of a warez website but not too warez, where we offer things for download, but not games and movies, other stuff.
We haven't done any backlinking to our site, only on page SEO. Articles were not unique, they were copied from other websites. We were ranking for long tail keywords only, no chances to rank for a short keyword, only if it was a very low competition. Here is my problem:
    1.jpg
Google took us down, not deindexing our pages but placed them on 248715785479 position.

What were our mistakes? Is this normal? What should we do?
I see the same kind of websites (competition), with IDENTICALLY articles with ours (we all copied the articles from the same source), but they are still there.

Also you said you copied the articles from another site, google knows the "original source" of where the content came from meaning its giving credits to that site since it penalizing yours since you copied it. That's where your issue is ( you got hit for duplicate content)

Is their whole site duplicate content like yours was?

Try to research their domain and look for differences between your site and their site. Check source code too.

It just means they haven't deindexed, yet.

    Duplicate content is a killer.

I have been in similar situations, what i do is buy a new domain and just start over, sometimes it takes a month, but with my current site i have been getting 4k+ steadily for about 3 months, but i know it probably wont last forever, so i will just start over again, seems to be the easyiest way to do it...

What changes did you make when you started over which you think helped the site stick?

I am still not 100% convinced duplicate content is bad, and I keep reading articles on either side of the arguement. I mean, look at sites like Drudge report, I forget some others I used as examples. they are duplicate content sites just pull from other sources and they rank.

that is why i stated that there are at least 5 more authority websites with identical articles like mine. They were all copied from the original website. Not to say that there might be for each article dozens of copies through the web.

Well i just copied two paragraphs( 150 words) from one article, and search it on google. 113.000 results, checked the first 5 pages on google, they all have the identical paragraph.

Guys, it's easy to be arrogant and say "lol, duplicate content" but the fact is other websites on the niche use the same stolen content and are still up there.
If you go to a 2000 words wikipedia page and copy 100 words for your article, the end page will definitely not be a duplicate. Compare the two pages and you'll get a low similarity between them. I compared two pages just now and i got 12% percentage similar content between the original and my page.

I don't know. But it would be nice to get passed the duplicate content thing and explore some other possibilities.

That's like saying "well other sellers on ebay are getting away with selling cd keys"

Google just hasn't penalized them yet.

Google itself is an aggregate site, and there's nothing wrong with aggregate content if you give credit to the source, like google does.
I bet you didn't put links to the copied content?
