Hi there, I have a 4 year old site that is presently getting 2,000+ unique visitors daily on autopilot, but I am only making less than a dollar a day, and on some days $1-$2

    Link is http://www.pimpmywalk.com

I also have a forum on the site with 32,000+ members, and ~100 active or more users online at any one time: http://www.pimpmywalk.com/forum

It teaches people how to cwalk, a popular "dance" worldwide, but mainly in the US. The number of daily unique visitors has been pretty steady these past few years without much work on my part.

I have currently monetized the site with Adsense, which brings in about just under a dollar a day, or $1-$2 on some days. I just want to be able to make enough to not have to worry about the VPS (hosting) anymore, which costs about $76.50 per month. Adsense currently only brings in $50-$60, and even if I do manage to earn enough, adsense payment is pretty slow (NET-30) and the payment threshold is pretty high - $150 AUD for me. Not sure how much that is in USD.

    Other things I've tried:

    - Selling banner ads on the site/trying to find advertisers. No luck

    - CPA. No luck. Got $1 leads here and there, but nothing compared to what I am earning with adsense now.

    - Selling Clickbank products. No luck, only ever made a sale for a "hip hop instrumentals" product once in a 3 or 4 month period.

Things I do not want to try:

    - Popups: I don't want to annoy my users with popups though, or restricting access to the content/tutorials using programs like CPA Lead.

    - Selling the site: Some people have suggested selling the site, but I do not want to sell the site. This is the only site that has been with me this long, and it has sentimental value to me. I also personally cwalk myself and upload videos on YouTube from time to time to help promote the site, and I've also met some good friends from my site.

    Any advice?

Does anyone have any advice for me?

What would you recommend for my situation? I also have another site that teaches a different dance, which gets about 400 unique visitors a day. Have monetized the site with adsense, but only earn about 10 cents every other day, lol.

    1. Remove Sound or Stop Autoplay video. I bet 50% of traffic leave on first sight

    2. The Startpage is not designed well and looks shit. (tutorial section doesnt)

    3. Other Adsense Ads and placement could earn you a liddle more prob.

I think if you position your ads better then you can increase your income alot. take alook at the top forums how they position their ads.

Create a membership section on the forum for VIPs and offer exclusive content

find a away to get the old members back to check your website. e.g. newsletters ...

create a contest around your topic with video submissions

    keep your crowd entertained

Oxynom's got the right idea. I also agree that the site's main page layout is horrible for monetizing as it auto plays the video which can be annoying at first site. Also I noticed you have to actually SCROLL DOWN just to see the ads. People visiting your site are obviously looking to learn how to C-Walk, so anything that says "Learn to C-Walk" will get a click. My advice is to re-code the layout so that the content is placed in tables from left to right like regular sites instead of a scroll-down. This way you can also blend the ads inside the white borders and not outside where it is OBVIOUS that it's an ad.

Apart from the re-design and blending, I second the advice on monthly contests and features. Don't settle for $100 bucks month or less. A site like that can make much, much more!

EDIT: Also let me mention that it's great to see the old site still up. I remember back in like '06 or '07 that I was searching for advanced pop locking and break dancing and came across that site. Not was I was looking for but I was impressed. Later in the same year I remember actually WATCHING the episode on G4 where your site was mentioned. Haha the coincidence these days.

    Also.

I noticed that the Google Ads are really relevant, at least on the forum. I recomend maybe adding some type of keywords in the forum or some text somewhere that provides some contextual content so that Google can deliver relevant ads.

    Thanks for the advice! :)

I'm going to consider installing WordPress on the main site, and instead of making the site one column, perhaps I'll try a navigation menu on the left, with content on the right.

I've also turned off the autoplay for the video on the main homepage. I'll keep it that way for a week or so and see if that somehow affects the adsense earnings.

Thanks for the comments, MrSparkles. :) I'm not actually from the US, so I didn't know about G4 tv at the time, but it was the first time one of my sites got featured on TV, so it was pretty exciting haha. :D

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean by the old site still being up. If you mean the layout of the tutorials section which we used for the "first" forum, and initially for the site, yep, that's still up. :D

    dude :)
find the local clubs - put a script by ip showing correct local club and get membership fee from guys tell them you own biggest site for cwalk or whatever and get affiliate or even setup ur own aff program and offer it to clubs that teach people offline... videos will help and some big facebook group and organise local events 1 by 1 till it grows and people pay offline..
