Hi all.. Although I've already did quite good with ranking some of my pages, I have never really given attention to onpage SEO. I now realize that this is a hugh mistake but I just lack the knowledge to check "h tags" and stuff like that. I have a Wordpress website and installed some basic SEO (platinum seo) plugins and just optimized my page URLS which untill now was sufficient to rank these pages (very low comp)

I now wanna target bigger keywords and feel that onpage SEO is much more important, but really need some advice and help of a reputable member here. I won't disclose my site publically here on BHW because I've read stories of blasted sites of people who took the risk..

    slappinDaBees,

Choose keywords that are important to the product or service you are marketing and build a page around each one. There are certain characteristics as to how you do this such as keyword density in website copy and the number of relevant keywords you should include in meta tags. You can skip the keyword meta tag as Google ignores that one.

Make sure your internal link structure is functioning well and is easy for search engines to crawl. I have read in different places that the presence of a robots.txt file that allows all robots is sort of like an invitation to search engines to crawl your site so you could upload one. Make sure you have the canonical version of all your pages outlined with a meta tag.

Here are links to more information on SEO to get you started,

In my opinion, if you don't "Block" the bots from easily crawling your page, you are OK. For example, I would not place any script on the top of the page. I would place them before the body ends ( NO SCRIPT! Not even a single line). For css, I would only use the style.css (not a single line of inline css). I would place title and description for every page, keep 6-8% keyword density for the content. I would also make sure that there isn't any garbage tags and css rules like "text-indent:9999px" etc.

Placing your main keyword in the h1 tag helps too. In one phrase, "keep it simple" !
Of course, this is my opinion. There are millions of people available online who posses better knowledge than me when it comes to SEO. I just posted my 2 cents :)

Are you serious about that density bro ?? You sure that's not a typo ??!! Cause what I can remember back 6-7 years ago while "SEO" meant only to be "onpage optimization" (read bunch of keywords stuffing in the title, meta fields, contents and bam ! you're in top page for any niche you can possibly think of) - then also I never heard someone suggesting more than 3-4% density..lol
