if your site loses a bunch of backlinks in one day, is that unnatural?
I am sure all websites lose links every day so there has to be a threshold. like "if this site lost x number of links, that's suspicious"

what looks normal and what looks abnormal?

If you have 10 backlinks and you loose 5 in a day it's a problem, if you have 300 and loose 5 in a day it's ok. But keep sure you buld some more backlinks every now and then!

Pretty sure no one has tested this because it's almost impossible to control link deletion. But yes high quality links are not deleted frequently, so I would "assume" it looks bad if you have tons of links disappearing all the time.

Irrelevant, depends on the types of links you get. Just keep building links daily, your rate of acquiring new links should be higher than that of losing them over time.

Yes, losing backlinks is normal, but losing lots of them is suspicious. Naturally, websites should lose backlinks at a very slow rate, and the threshold for unnatural link building activities is known only to Google employees.

Unless you are building many spammy backlinks or your site's backlink profile is largely made up of spammy backlinks, I wouldn't worry about how many links I lose in a day.
