In most cases people advice to start in a narrow niche when you start a blog. But does it help to rank if you stick to a narrow niche?

As I see it, when you run a blog on WP google ranks your blog posts as separate pages. And it doesn't really matter if you write all articles within a micro niche or in a broad niche, as long as your pick low hanging fruits (=low competition keywords).

What is the advantage of going into a narrow niche then? It seems to me it's more advantageous to go broad since you have more opportunities to find low competition keywords.

To make it easier for the discussion, we can take "Solo female backpack travelling in Asia" as a micro niche. And "Travelling in Asia" as a broad niche, as an example.

What I learn through reading all the stuffs- even targeting low key search volume chances are there that people might buy the same product via high authority sites...making your site narrow may looks like you are specialised in that domain... Correct me if I'm wrong

I agree, going for a narrow niche will make you seem like an expert and you will earn some credibility. It’s also easier to rank for more specific keywords. Yes, it will be harder to get traffic but you will get quality visitors that are genuinely interested in your content. Also, if you’re not extra interested in that topic, you may soon get bored.
On the other hand, a broad niche gives you more possibilities and a wider audience. So, it all comes down to what you want to achieve.

This post grabbed my eyes, actually this is really very interesting topic and i would like to share my thoughts.

I agree with @Writerly above and would like to connect my answer with him.

In recent years, market is shifting from backlinks, ranking etc factors to Authority.

For example, I would like to buy an electronic appliance from AMAZON instead of an unknown small company website having huge discount offer, because i don't trust him. Don't take it wrong, but it's my personal opinion.

People like to buy from whose visibly is strong, who has established in market and actually invested their time & money into their VISIBILITY on authority platforms & what we so called "BRANDING".

Now let's come to the question i.e whether to go with Broad Niche or Narrow Niche.

Why the hell to go with narrow niche ?

Target Broad Niche, Target Broad Audience & Maket Broad Money :)

Now the key point is, "MAKE AUTHORITY" in Whatever Market You Are.

Broad Niche allows you to write & cover broad topics.

Write content, publish on authority platforms, do webinars, do email marketing & more, other marketers have wrote well into different section of BHW.

Just 1 more line in last. "Authority is the Future".

Just focus on Authority with your every marketing effort.

    Good Luck

For me, I see it like this:
Option 1 - you have money and you're ready to invest a lot of money in great quality backlinks so you can get authority -> go broad.
Option 2 - if your budget is small or non-existent -> go with a small niche. Relevancy & credibility will push your site a little better. Also, this means that your posts/pages are highly related to each other, which means that you will have a lot of interlinking going on.

Both have their own advantages. Like in broad niche, you will never be short of ideas to write about.

Does narrow niche help you rank better? What if you go broad niche and write only for those low competition keywords.

My approach is to start with a small niche but build it in a way that it is already silo'd or would be easy to silo at a later point. Then if the site starts taking off then I can expand into closely related areas.

Yep. A broader niche expands the possibility of finding a lot more low comp kws to be targeted.

The answer is both, depending on where you are.
    Start narrow narrow narrow niche.
    Like: winter suet bird feeders
Write EVERYTHING about those bird feeders, then expand into information about "winter woodpecker bird feeders"
Keep adding Narrow narrow niches that are related.
Then expand in "winter bird feeders" then "winter bird seed" then "winter bird care". Work your way up, then drop back down.
Following that idea will allow you to focus your work, build upon it, then gain authority. As you gain authority/rank, Google will rank you better for other keywords as you expand.
