Both yearly renewal rates are around $9.00

    - Private WhoIs for NameCheap = $2.88 a year (first year free)
    - Private WhoIs for Name.c0m = Free (no charge at all)

I'll be using HostGator for hosting.

I would just go with Name.c0m for domain purchases because the private WhoIs is free, but I've heard good things about NameCheap.

    Anyone have a preference?

Never used namecheap, and have just started using name.com instead of godaddy.

Love their interface so far ...

I've registered over 100 domains with name.com and have never had one single problem. I absolutely love them. They're very stable as a company and have a great user interface (100x better than godaddys).

Oh, and be sure to search for a promo code if you buy from name.com. They release new ones each month and you can usually get a .com for around $8.

I buy all domains from name.com now since it's generally cheaper and has free whois privacy, but I prefer Namecheap's interface.

i use name.com for domains. you can get a coupon for like a buck off or something search for name.com coupon. the nice thing is name.com offers the free privacy, godaddy charges like 5 or 10 bucks or whatever, and if you can get it for free you should always use it just in case you want to sell it or whatever.

i use namecheap.com for SSL certs though - $11 for a year is SOO cheap - thats pretty much bulk rate for non major resellers. I love both, but use them based on price.

another thing about name.com on the domains is that their DNS changes are super fast, only godaddy is faster for me and they integrate with google apps if you are so inclined. i dont like the google thing but i can see how its useful.

I also use name.com for all of my domains. name.com rocks! :)

Great interface, free private whois. There no reason to look for another registrar. :)
