GoDaddy's CEO has killed an elephant and the company made a terrible PR video for it. Worst idea ever, the internet is a rage, see the controversial video here hxxp://jacquesmattheij.com/How+to+damage+your+brand+in+one+smooth+shot+Way+to+GoDaddy

So now in response, NameCheap is offering $4.99 transfers for the next 24 hours with code BYEBYEGD. I am transferring, there is a limit of 10 names though.

Hi Eric,

It's not often that we would disagree publicly with a competitor, but we at Namecheap are very disturbed by this video of a competitor killing an elephant for sport. Check out the ABC News Report (Warning: Very Graphic!)

We've decided to throw our support behind our Elephant friends by offering domain transfers at a price where we actually lose money.

Show your protest by saying BYEBYEGD again and transfer your domains to Namecheap for $4.99 for the next 24 hours through 11:59pm EST on 3/31/11 (limit 10 per user, valid for all com/net/org domains).

On top of that, we'll donate $1 for each transfer to Save The Elephants

Use coupon code BYEBYEGD and let's help the Elephants together!

Regards,
Team Namecheap

Hey!!! Dollar rain for namecheap. They will finish godaddy with their coupon code

Nice, very nice. I actually love it and I am somewhat proud they jumped on this because it should be a very effective way to steal business from GD.

I hope they publish results haha!

Thanks for the post. Killing any animal looks ugly, but why did they post the video? I am not going to be giving up meat anytime... ever!

Nice maneuver for Name Cheap though, it will be nice when they get hot models to advertise for them without raising the price of course.

In response, Parsons wrote on his blog that the petitioners "have no idea what they're talking about".

The non-lethal alternatives they proposed, such as beehives on poles or chili-infused string fences, are "ridiculous suggestions", he wrote.

"The people there have very little," he wrote, "many die each year from starvation and one of the problems they have is the elephants, of which there are thousands and thousands, that trash many of their fields, destroying the crops."

"Should the folks at Change.org go to Zimbabwe with their bee hives and chili pepper lines, my guess is they'll return with a tusk in their ass and some very pissed off villages and farmers in their wake."

He noted that he tries to only shoot male elephants, in order to avoid upsetting the elephants' matriarchal social structure, and that the elephant meat feeds local villagers.

Even if this is actually completely true, posting a video is probably one of the most disrespectful things you can do and also promotes this kind of bad behaviour.

- Sorry to get off topic

I transferred 12 domains over last night. I prefer Namecheap as the support is better and you get free WHOIS :D

wtf they charge you anything to transfer? I've sold sites before and didn't have to pay money to transfer the domain from one host to another, just unlock it and do a request then verify...

They WANT your domain with them because like 99% of people will auto reg it for years to come...

Nice deal. Transfering 2 of my domains. Just a note to those who want to transfer - your domains need to be at least 60 days old and unlocked or you won't be able to transfer them...
