    And

Never saw NC with 5 buck domains - like Hell389, cheapest I have seen is 8.81 with the latest coupon.

The info domains are a bargain, even if its just to collect the free SSL certs :)

The second year renewal is the normal price - 9.69 before coupons.

Trying to make a commission off of us, huh ?

Registering at Godaddy is about $1 cheaper but namecheap kicks ass because they include free Whois Guard and they have the most amazing support - there's someone there to reply instantly every time. I once had some trouble with my hosting at godaddy and I had to wait for 3 days to get a f**n copy/paste answer. That did it for me - namecheap all the way.

I would suggest you to try FreeHostia... I am with these guys for about three years and the domainname remained unchanged all this time: $9.xx/year.
