Like many of us, I too was once sucked into all of the ebooks and courses out there. It wasn't until recently that I actually decided to get the wheel rolling on a real project. I grabbed a nice kw that's very competitive but I should be able to rank for. Site was registered 4/2011 and is a couple weeks away from being 30 days old. My goal was to just reach Google page #1, but since I've already come so close to that I upgraded my goal to top 3 positions :) I've been bouncing all around riding the Google roller coaster as it tosses my site up and down the pages...

This post is just to share my progress, get some feedback and maybe some tips from others. Up until now I believe I've been pretty whitehat with all my methods. Haven't explored bh methods but also don't want to risk sandboxing. So far so good being wh :)

    STATS

    KW Searches:
    (global/local/match)
    150,000/20,000/broad
    100,000/10,000/exact
    115,000/15,800/phrase

    KW Pages:
    10,000,000 (broad)
    10,000,000 (exact)
    800,000 (phrase)

    Domain Registered:4/25/2011

    Google Rankings:
    4/30 - page 17
    5/2 - page 20
    5/3 - page 17
    5/5 - page 16
    5/8 - page 17
    5/09 - page 15
    5/10 - page 17
    5/11 - page 2

I'm pretty excited. Dunno why I flew up 15 pages to page 2 but I'll take it. Hopefully will dance around some more and land on page 1!

    Cheers!

Just noting that you used the word global. Always use LOCAL EXACT. Cool that your ranking there. But users never really get past the top 5 or so. The hard work has yet to come lol.... Chances are if you dance around a bit, you'll drop, if you don't have any backlinks. Usually when a site enters the SERPS its pretty high, because it hasn't enough data to place it in the SERPS correctly, once it analyzes your backlinks, then it will settle into position.....

Now stop looking at your stats and start writing a crapload of pages, submitting articles and grabbing backlinks everyday :)

But when looking for traffic always use LOCAL EXACT.... You might be shocked at how low the traffic is... and usually not even worth doing the page at all, unless your bored.

Thanks for the reply. I made a mistake in my post...the searches up there are global/local...put global/monthly on accident :)

So, 10k = local. I'll take it. This is my first go trying to get ranked so I just want to get my hands wet, but if it's a gem I wouldn't be too upset! I'm looking at the whole picture and know I'm also going to be bring in some of the related kw traffic and such...we shall see though.

PS-I'm a stats whore! Love to check. Who doesn't?
