Just kidding - I'm just mocking how these journey threads always seem to have ambitious goals like $100 per day but stop being posted in after 2 weeks. It's good to have goals, but a shame to see so many journey threads die.

If I had to pick a goal, I'd say about £1,500 per month. I THINK that's within scope of this project but to be honest I'm not sure. As a complete newbie I'll be happy if i can just get ranked and pull in some organic traffic.

    So what's the plan?
I was initially going to be starting an amazon affiliate blog within the fitness equipment niche, but having bought a domain and hosting and written 2 articles I decided to pull the plug. I started before I had really learned enough about keyword research and after a while on BHW and the rest of the internet i realised I had set myself up for failure with my niche/product choice.

Fortunately, I stumbled upon a different type of product. I won't go into detail about this niche but the 'product' is actually subscription websites. There are 2 that I plan to promote (although one has a 'no promoting our competitors' clause in their terms and conditions, so well see how that goes.)

So the plan is to create a blog style website around this niche, review/compare the 2 subscriptions while peppering in my affiliate links. Then write as much blog style content as I can to generally 'pad out' the site, give myself something to promote on social media maybe, target some longer tail keywords etc etc.

So far I've written 2 of my pages. I have written down a total of 16 page titles that I think I can write decent articles for, 6 of which are 'essentials'. The essentials will be the bare bones of the website, while the others will be the filler/blog style content that point to my money pages.

Compared to the fitness niche idea this is a MUCH smaller project and I think it'll be a lot more manageable to make this little website and try my hand at getting backlinks etc before I try a more ambitious project in the future.

    Current Status:
    Domain Purchased
    Hosting Set up
Free Wordpress theme set up (Adequate for now, but will be improved in time)
    Articles written: 2

    To do soon
Write up at least 10 pages
    Make an info graphic
Set up and plan social media profiles
Plan backlink strategy (this is going to be tricky as anyone blogging in anything close to my niche is a competitor, it's a weird field like that)

Haha that might not be a bad idea, I've already quit on one project, so statistically speaking I'm on a 100% quit rate :p

Hoping that won't be the case though

A goal of £ 1,500 a month seems rather over ambitious for someone who admits to being a newbie in this area.

Are you expecting to reach that goal before the end of 2017 or within a shorter time frame?

    Anyway wish you good-luck.

So you mock others, then admit you gave up on one blog to start something else, hope you're not going to open a journey thread for every site you start and give up on.

Probably a fair point, but I'll take it as it comes I guess. Time scales wise I only expect to be working on this for about 6-9 months. If after that amount of time it still isn't making the £1500 then I'd probably just move on to the next project. The reason being that this one is relatively limited in it's scope. In 6 months time I'll probably have done everything I can to get it off the ground.

    Update

I wrote another page, this one wasnt actually off my 'essentials' list which I was menat to be prioritising but it was more interesting to write so I just did it anyway. The article is a more social media/clickbaity targeted one, which hopefully creates some intrigue and has the affiliate link at the end. It's short and sweet to cater to the ADHD facebook users of today (myself included haha).

I also made a few graphics for my site - nothing fancy, just stuff to throw at the top of my blog posts and a facebook cover photo. They're small touches but they've made a big difference to how the site looks. In the longer term once I've got more content I'll think about buying a theme though, or finding someone on fiverr/upwork to make the site look more professional.

The graphics i made were on the website www.canva.com - Someone mentioned it in another thread and it's awesome! Even a non-artistic fucker like me can manage to make a half decent banner with it.

The other update is that I made a facebook page for the site and set off my first ever paid advertising social media campaign. Exciting stuff! Now given that my website only has three pages, paying for advertising is arguably a little premature at this stage, But only put £3 on it which in the grand scheme of things is nothing - I couldn't even get a big mac meal for that ;) After this I won't be using paid advertising much, but I just wanted to gain some experience in the area and if it gets me a few likes on my page that'd be nice. It looks a bit pathetic having 0 likes...

Yes canva is a great tool for non artists. You may also get some ' free' likes by asking your friends & family to visit the facebook page and like it.
Keep up the pace of work. I'm betting this thread won't end after 15days.

    UPDATE

    Facebook

Ok so the facebook ad didn't so particularly well at all. I didn't expect much out of it with it only being £4 but when I was choosing the money facebook gave an estimate of 900 - 3,000 people reached, IE they'd put my advert in font of that many people. By the time the ad had run, the reach was only 550. I kind of feel like facebook have ripped me off there tbh... Glad I leaned about this on a £4 campaign now rather than a much bigger one some other time.

Anyway, It got me like 10 likes on my page but other than that didn't really do anything for me, even my google analytics didn't seem particularly affected. Like 6 clicks a day over 2 days. The problem with my niche is that is isn't really something that gives people value by liking a facebook page. It's a very specific part of the 'make money online' niche so my ad was probably met with skepticism and cynicism. I'll have to have a think about how I can sneak in under the rader without setting off peoples "Omg, this must be a scam" alarm bells if I decide to do any more social media advertising in the future. It was a good learning experience though.

    Writing

I didn't write anything on monday/tuesday/wednesday because I was in hospital most of the day on Monday and Wednesday (Cancer patient, whoop). Finally broke that trend with my 4th post today. I think this is a good quality post and one that will hopefully have a positive impact on increasing conversions by reassuring some of the skeptics I mentioned above.

    SEO

At the moment most of my posts are valuable for the reader but not necessarily good from an SEO perspective. I'm conscious that I should probably try to focus a bit more on on page SEO in my articles going forward. Choosing a target keyword and making sure to tick all of the boxes on Yoast SEO plugin. After all, there's no point in writing good stuff if nobody is going to find it.

    Instagram

I have an instagram account that I set up for the purpose of promoting my fitness equipment site that I mentioned in my first post. It only has about 1.5k followers and is obviously an unrelated niche but since I'm not using it for anything I just threw my link in the bio and started focussing my follow/unfollow (manual on my phone) efforts on UK people only.

It's seemingly had little impact, giving me a couple of clicks here and there on my google analytics, but I may as well just leave it there since It's not doing any harm and I enjoy running and growing the account from a learning experiment point of view.

    UPDATE

Another day, another article. That's pretty much it since yesterday's update tbh.

Here's my google Analytics in all it's glory. Pretty much all of this traffic is either me, or clicks from my irrelevant instagram page haha. Can't expect much until I actually start ranking in the search engines, which could be a while! Focus for now is getting all of the content written.
