My website's main keyword is in H1, but it keeps disappearing from search results.

Problem

My website's main keyword is set in H1.
The main keyword appeared in search results for a few days, but then disappeared again.
This has happened three times.

What would you do to solve this issue?

looks like a google dance. Google dances happen on several occasions:

- when your site is new (under 1 month old) and google are trying to figure out where to rank you;
- when you acquire strong backlinks that are capable of improving your rankings and google will - again - dance you until they figure out where to rank you;
- during major algo changes (one of them is happening as we speak) when google shuffles stuff around until the update fully rolls out and the rankings stabilize;

I've also heard someone say that google dance can also happen when you change the theme of your site, but I've personally never experienced or seen this, so I don't know how true it is. But it's just another possibility, so keep it in mind!

I'd chill for 2-3 weeks until the update completes

Long-tail keywords are getting good search exposure. The main issue is that even though we used h1 tags for the main keywords,

they are not appearing in search results. What could be the reason for this?

Some other websites are also facing the same issue.

What are you overall metrics DR/DA when you compare it to the other sites ranking in top 10? How old is your site? Do you have backlinks?
Did you checked your overall content score?

Our competitor's site has used 3,000 anchor texts with only one main keyword, and there are only four different anchor texts for all backlinks, mostly consisting of spammy links. In contrast, our site has employed 10 high-quality niche edits with traffic and keywords, and 50 manual backlinks. Naturally, we have used diverse anchor texts. We don't believe our overall quality is inferior to that of our competitors.

Therefore, I believe that scores like DR/DA/AS are not important.

that's not a given to be honest, I don't know why you made this assumption...

The reasons could be several:

- the keywords in H1 could be too competitive (I have seen 8-9 words long keywords with 0 monthly searches having 65 difficulty score, just because it's a long tail doesn't mean that it's easy to rank. Nailing the keyword research is an art sometimes)

- the keywords in H1 might not be mentioned anywhere else in the content, which would not be enough of an optimization for google to consider ranking them

- they might not be LSI enough for google to consider as part of the topic, therefore google would have no reasons to rank your content for those keywords, especially at the detriment of other sites that might have their content optimized specifically for those keywords.

- your site might've been affected by latest google update, and these updates mess things around while they're rolling out, so I wouldn't stress too much about it if that's the case

Some other websites are also facing the same issue.
this reinforces option #4 above (could be a google update issue). Better to keep calm and let the storm pass, then check again...
