I "stole" someones video the day before Xmas '08 because I had a hunch it would go viral. Turns out I was right. It had only 6,000 views when I stole it.

Soon after I uploaded it the original poster deleted his version because of too much controversy. So mine was/is still the only one left and is still getting all of the traffic.

The video got 60,000 views within a 2 weeks. Thats when I added my affiliate link (stupid, I know I should have caught on earlier).

But now the video has doubled in views and has 112,000 views and its not even a month old. It is one of the top ranked vids on youtube in its category, and HAD several different honors. So the aff. link had been up there for 60,000 people to see and here are my stats:

534 visits to my affiliate link
    0 sales

I would have thought this would have generated some sales. Boy was I wrong.

Is there still hope for this golden pony? Any ideas?

If you're wondering what my affiliate link was.....

say if my video was about Ford Pickup trucks crushing cars. My aff. link was to a website that sold tshirts about Ford Pickup trucks. Of course this is not what the vid was about but you get the idea. I was directing them to a tshirt company that sold tshirts in that niche.

Take it easy on me if this was a dumb move. Im still an aff. marketing noob.

You should _always_ check yourself if the offer tracks before you promote it. Get a VPN or Proxy and try it out.

Maybe you could have sales when you put a email submit on your site for free gas or so.

YT dont convert too good in my opinion when they have to pay for stuff.

That was a very poor decision by you. Selling anything on YouTube is very hard. I am not saying that it cannot be done but your conversion rates are going to be something like 0.00001%. Instead direct them to CPA offers, ringtones, email/zip submits, short form CPA's, etc., these convert much much better. I can take a look at your video and direct you. Hope this helps.

How would I test to see if the affiliate tracking is working? I know its tracking my visits because that number goes up.

Also, how would I find out if they dont pay? They are a legit company.

The visits will always track because they're going directly over your affiliate network with a redirection. However, some advertisers take the tracking pixel off the second (or whichever the submission page is) page, thus it wont track your leads anymore. If I was you I would take an email or zip submit, and then simply test it out yourself by entering an own emailaddress (or just a random one) and then lookin if it tracked as a lead.

well if its tracking your visits then your tracking should be fine.

Look, see it from the visitors point of view.

One minute you were surfing the vidz for a half an hour, then you come on a video with a watermark or a url in the description.

Ok, so you are bored, click on the link and then you come to your site with content, gfx and a banner or whatever.

On this point the visitor is still in his 'video' high, not in a ' jeez, now im gonna buy a tshirt'.

So, what you have to do is to find a way to somehow 'extend' your video, keep the visitor focused in his video high.

    A truly simple idea:

Video -> website -> CPA offer 'wanna see more, enter your email' -> $$$

Again, this is to simple, and you probably shouldnt go for the 'wanna see more' but i guess you get the picture now. Be more creative then your neighbour on YT.

I recently bought $200 worth of Facebook ads with coupons and got over 600 clicks on ads. Not a single fuckin conversion. Traffic on facebook, Youtube etc is crap at converting.

    Not true.

It obviously depends on what/how you are promoting.

Each source of advertising traffic is a bit different, so you have to find the sweet spot through testing.

Facebook can be lucrative if done right. They recently relaxed some of their advertising policies a bit.

My conversion rate is often between 0.01% - 0.005% , depends on the right video.

But look at it this way..you sell s.th. 1 time, and get $20-30

Now Get 3 sales a day for a video, and you have a great, long-term, extra income.

But CPA would be easier, if you are already experienced with it.

Split test. Try another affiliate program for the next 60000 views.

Use a tracking url such as from these guys here
    Code:
    http://urlsnub.com/
and compare the stats given by the program with those of the tracking url for any discrepancy between them first of all and see if you get any conversions. Then try another affiliate prog for the next 60,000 and check your percentages. My guess is if you get that many natural views in such a short time you'll prob get a lot more. What do you have to loose just dont have it sitting there doing nothing but collecting views monitize it somehow while you can.
