    Hey Fellow BHW Members!
Well I've reached my 100th post and thought I'd give some of my knowledge of Facebook or more specifically Facebook fan pages back to the community!

So to kick it off, is Facebook fan pages really worth its weight in gold?
    Well yes and no...
Yes it's worth its weight in gold at a certain level (by level I mean amount of fans on a page) you will need A LOT of fans for it to really be worth its weight in gold.
Why? Well late 2011 Facebook released an update which effected fan pages dramatically. Back then you could make a page, and get the word out by posting a link to your page to some friends
and from there it would more then likey go viral over night... Why? Because any page liked by someone would show up to all their friends on their news feed, thus doing all the advertising for you!
Like I said though, Facebook released an update which stopped any page that was liked from being displayed on peoples news feed, thus not allowing anybody to see the pages without searching for them! Bummer I know!
That's why it's SO difficult now to build fan pages, and it's why a lot of people have to resort to likejacking with some viral app!
I remember creating a page last year and within 1 week without me doing anything except liking it myself, it went from 1 like (me) to 187k and i did NOTHING! All this because when I liked my own page it came up on my friends news feed! Man those were the days!
So that's why pages today are worth their weight in gold because it's incredibly difficult to build pages of that magnitude anymore.

Now why did I say no before?
Well basically if you have a fan page of say 1million fans, you aren't actually able to communicate with all 1million fans, so if you post a status, that status will never show up to 1million fans news feeds.
Why? Because Facebook put a cap on it so that people who own fan pages are only able to advertise to 17% on average! A review was done on 4,000 Facebook pages and the average page post is only reaching 17 percent of the page's fans.
So a 1million fan page is pretty much a 170k page.
However to make this percentage go up, it has been said that getting your fans more active on your page will help with this.
This is true and false.. It will only make the percentage go up because more people are interacting with your page from OUTSIDE your page, This is known as your viral audience (people that aren't on your fan page). These people aren't an audience you can personally communicate with,
they will not see your posts when you post them, they see your posts if someone on your page interacts with your post! So thats why that statement is true, and why it's false.
Your percentage will rise slightly with page activity but you won't ever get to communicate with 100% of your page... hell you won't even be able to communicate with 25% of your page!

So how to get fans after the update?
Well there's a few ways! You can setup ads on Facebook for your fan page. These are good if you're setting up a niche page and you want targeted fans! A tip for this is go to a site like 'fiverr' and buy coupons from there for $5! Dont be a mug! ;)
Another way is to simply post your fanpage link on tons of popular fan pages and message them asking them to share your page. This doesn't work that well and that's why you have to do tons of it!
You could also use a viral app to help boost likes to your page, the trouble with this is it breaks Facebooks TOS and many pages have been banned using this method, mainly due to the app being crappy, so make sure you pick a good one! (Good ones don't come cheap)
If you already have a fan page with fans, posting statuses of funny pictures or jokes is a good one, as these type of posts tend to get shared alot, Therefore your post gets seen by your fans friends and so on!

Now statistics of each status you post, and what they mean.
    Facebook.jpg
    Reach:
    • Organic - Potential exposure to traffic on your fan page
    • Paid - Traffic from adverts placed on Facebook
    • Viral - Traffic from outside of your page that saw your post

    Engaged Users:
    • Link Clicks - People that clicked on your page from a post
    • Other Clicks - People that clicked on your post itself
    • Stories Generated - This includes all engagement from people (likes, comments, shares)
    • Negative Feedback - A total of actions that people have made. This is a number of things (clicked hide post, flagged it as spam, unliked the page)

    People Talking About This:
    • Likes - People that liked the post (if the number is greater than the number shown on your post, this is because it calculates the likes from other people's posts that shared your post on there wall)
    • Comments - Comments on your post (if the number is greater than the number shown on your post, this is because it calculates the likes from other people's posts that shared your post on there wall)
    • Shares - People that shared your post onto their walls

If you already have a decent fan page and are wondering how to monetise it, here's a few things you can do!
Being part of a network is a excellent start as they will more then likely have good offers for you to use, so this requires minimal work! The hard part is getting into the network as alot of them don't like to work with fan pages!
A few networks you could try are 'ChaCha', 'Maxbounty', 'cxdigitalmedia', 'lifestreetmedia'.
Another way which will require a bit of work is advertise an offer that will lead to a site you have content locked, and start building yourself a list. Then advertise products around the offer you initially posted through your list.
You can also make money through 'adsense' by creating a website, for example a something similar to '9gag', put up some ads, advertise through your Facebook. job done!

Those are just a few of the ways you can monetise your fan pages.

Anyways i hope this post has answered any questions you may have had regarding Facebook fan pages!

I've dealt with Facebook for a while now.. the overview is perfect and should be read by everyone who has a FB fanpage...

    I'll add 2 advices:

    - If you already have a fanpage with tons of fans, do not take any unnecessary risks in promoting it (viral apps etc) because once you get banned, you won't get your fanpage back. And you'll be sorry!

    - Promoting the page with Facebook Ads is great if you have a niche. Agree 100%. Unfortunately lately it's hard to find coupons :( It seems everyone has run out of them, or FB doesn't release them as easily anymore, and who has them raises the price.

Facebook is losing big in the stock market. Its value now is 50% of what it was when it went public. I expect FB to become more and more "harshy" with the small fish making money on it (fanpage owners), so keep always your attention level high.
If you are monetizing it through a blog or website, make sure you have visitors follow you also elsewhere (twitter, google +, etc).

You never know what will happen tomorrow with these nervous Silicon Valley billionaires :)

Great info there. Do you think fb groups would function better? Even if they're capped at 5000 people, there is still potential if the users are targeted.

Please refrain from making posts centered and smaller in font, it makes them harder to read.

Yes facebook accounts thats require you to add users have a far better reach, you will need a good few full accounts though, but again you have the issue that facebook doesnt like you building multiple accounts and sooner or later you may get banned. You have a chance to prevent this by using a different ip for each account when you login.

I think you misunderstood me. I meant groups where an account can create multiple groups and people join the group.

Yeah, monetizing would probably be a good thing to know for those of us with fb pages sitting gathering dust, lol.
