I have a blog that has been running for just a month or so and the idea was simply to see how things worked (Wordpress etc) but I have decided to concentrate on another blog.

Rather than just let it die I have decided to use it to test blog posts and what happens to them in Google and attracting visitors.

I have in the past few days done the following and I guess its too early to see the effects yet. But let me have your thoughts and ideas.

1) Took videos from Youtube, Image was taken from a screen shot of the video and my own original text added as the content.

2) Took content from a popular site and used part of it (word for word) along with additional text of my own. Credit was given to the original source

The above arn't original ideas but I like the idea of testing and then developing new ways to be shared.

Scourser,

I like your idea but the description of what you have done so far doesn't make any sense. Are you trying to see if the blog pages won't get indexed because the content is duplicated?

I think you will have to insert some other parameters for yourself. Obviously you won't be able to control every factor but you can try and control as many as you can. What about backlinks? What about on-site optimization? When you run tests, do you have a control page and a test page? For instance all things should be the same and the thing you are testing should be the thing that is different on the one page.

Here is a good post on testing,

Hope that helps,

Thanks Shawn

Ill take a look at that link, I really dont know about this stuff and so I am just playing to see what happens. But I also understand the need to have some structure to my efforts or else how will I kow what, if anything has changed and if the changes are for good or bad.

Will be interesting to see what happens to your rankings for duplicate content that links to the original source. We all hear that linking back to the original content should show Google that you are referencing it, but I'd be keen to see what actual impact this has.
