    Hey guys,

So I thought I'd make this post as I've gotten so much in the short amount of time since I've been on BHW. I thought I'd share my journey with you and show off a little along the way too ;)

I was first introduced into SEO 5 years ago, when I was 12. My mum had just bought a high end eCommerce website and the company quoted her £3,000/month for SEO - around $4,500. As you can imagine for a medium sized business thats a huge chunk of money and she had to decline. I was at that time, more into the darker side of the internet and was more into RAT'ing etc.. (Yes, I know, I know) It wasn't for profit though more of a hobby and I got into a quite large chunk of trouble for what I'd done.
So my mum said that she'd be quoted that for SEO and if I could help, I started looking more into SEO and learned about link building, onpage meta data etc just to get the basics for it. I spent the next year dedicating chunks of my time with a guy on Skype who'd teach me in return for me helping with his websites (Writing content, setting them up, optimising the onpage stuff etc) - It was pretty awesome and at the time his adsense earnings were enough of a drive to push me onto the job.

I got my 1st client in 2010 (except my mums site) for £200/month. I worked my ass off optimising that site for the first month which saw some great improvements, the 2nd month I spent link building (mainly looking at link building softwares more than actually link building) - The 3rd month came around and I felt as if I'd have to ask for more money as his conversions were doing awesomely. I did and managed to get him to part with £500/month in cash.
At the time to be on 500 per month at 14 was incredible, some adults in England were not earning that.

I then went on to College (thats at 16 in the UK) I did around 5 months and got fed up as they were trying to teach me "marketing" - Which is a load of BS and i felt sorry for everyone else on that course, as they showed you how to make a website (in powerpoint -.-). I quit and applied for some SEO jobs in my nearest City, went to every job interview and got offered every job ^^ (At this point i was in top 250 COmm. Rank on SEOmoz and had built up a nice client base) I decided to go for a pretty good job as it offered different hours and was good pay.

I then started working on my own company (which later became HashtagSEO) and started offering white label seo services, so I'd sell my SEO services to other SEOs. I also had 9 local clients who were still on the same.

Currently earning - £50,000/Year - That's including tax removal and any costs to my business (e.g. my SENuke license, domain buying, hosting etc)
Working towards a house - Have £4k saved, need another £14k (Aiming for the end of the year)

I had bought a BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo, but it was stolen from my drive a few weeks back :/ So I just bought a new Audi A1 Black Edition (Will post a picture later).

My tips to any aspirational SEOs -
Save up some money to buy a few domains and hosting, work towards optimising the onpage of those sites and creating the actual site (I use wordpress with some edited templates on most of MY sites) and do some link building. Get these sites ranking so you can have a portfolio to show clients.
Engage with the SEO community, do case studies, tips, tutorials etc.. I've managed to bring 3-4 clients from just publishing content (e.g. my YouTube tutorial on here brought me a pretty awesome client).
Don't jump in balls deep and don't get excited quickly, you might be ranking #1 this month but you have to sustain that..

    Tools i suggest -
    MajesticSEO
    SENuke XCr
    ScrapeBox
GSA Search Ranker + GSA Indexer
    Linklicious / Lindexed
    Captcha Sniper
SEOmoz (The awesome webinars pay for the $99/month alone)

Here's a bit about my site, that I got ranking etc -
My HashtagSEO site, after just 1 month:

    OSE DA - 20
    OSE PA - 32
    Majestic Citation Flow - 46
Ranking Top 5 for 27 keywords
600 Uniques in the last 7 dfays (20th April - 27th of April)

Less than 100 Backlinks, less than $30 invested into the entire site and around 10 hours of my time.

    PS
    I'll be posting a couple pictures later today, but I haven't had a shower/got dressed yet ^^ #SEOfromHomeFTW

    I don't do any of that :D

I use RavenTools for reporting, makes my life hella easier and pricing is by quote. The proposal I prefer sitting down with the client or having a Skype meeting with them :)

Wow. The thing that amazes me the most from your story is that in the UK one can buy a house for 18k pounds. Are you serious or did you make a mistake?

Congrats buddy and great story - but at just 50k/year you spend waaay too much on a car haha - you should invest that back into your business....

Awesome advice. Impressive and the fact that you are only 17 makes that really astonishing. Earning that much in College must be pretty nice though to be sure.

well done mate! Can we ask about your link building strategy and do you use manual link building or all done by hand?

Finally what VPN do you use?

To be honest, at the moment - My link building is very minimal, I have a guy who does all my manual blog commenting for me who I'm training to do more at the moment.. I have a large blog network that I can use to build links and I use a lot of relevant link building (guest postings etc)

I don't use a VPN I use proxies but only private 1s from a few different providers.

LOL - that's the deposit he's putting down. Either that or he's buying a garage to live in.

It's a deposit haha and it's on a business policy so it's fairly cheap compared to my mates - Around £700/year compared to there like £2k lol...
