Hi everybody. I'm not sure if this is posted in the right section, so feel free to move the thread if it fits better in an other section.

First of all, this is not a regular "Follow my journey to ....". I'm simply making this thread because I have been a real slacker lately, and I hope that this will give me that feeling of responsibility to keep my fellow BHW members updated on my project and keep doing work instead of wasting my time doing useless stuff on the internet.

I'll try to make a long story short:
I was introduced to internet marketing exactly a year ago and was instantly interested in everything that has to do with IM. I started out by spending a lot of my time reading various threads on both BHW and WF, and then I began making a couple of sites.
I have been through the inevitable phase with investing a pretty decent amount of money in all sorts of linkbuilding software without the ability to utilize the features, ending up with no ROI.
To this day, I still haven't reached a ROI. Matter of fact, I haven't made a single $ off my investments.

To be straight forward with you all, I'm not sure if I have lost my motivation due to never making any money off my work, or if it's because I have been smoking marijuana a little too often lately.
An example of my lack of motivation: I'm currently focusing on a single site with a main keyword phrase of 55k searches a month. I have installed the theme, done on-page SEO and added 10 unique 500 word articles, and I have done all that over a period of 2 months, even though it would normally take a day or so. I tend to waste my time on YouTube, Facebook etc. when I should really be working on IM. Matter of fact, my AdSense account was banned due to inactivity about a month ago.
The thing is, I really want this! I dream about being able to make some sort of living off this! (Keep in mind that I'm just 18 years old). I would be thrilled just to make a few hundred dollars a month. So this thread is gonna be used to ask questions regarding how I should approach all sorts of problems regarding IM, and most important of all: keep myself motivated and keep you updated on my situation!

I have created a CPAWay account, and I will also be creating a new AdSense account in my cousins name. My first plan is to try out the 7-day free trial for Linkwheel Bandit, and then focusing on primarily using that or SenukeX to do some linkbuilding. I also have access to Scrapebox.

So that's my story! Feel free to give me any type of advice or response :)

This is a legit question and I hope people here take you seriously and don't flame you.

I think concentration is the main key. I find it terribly hard to stay focussed on one task when I have the whole world at the disposal of my fingertips (wiki and youtube especially). I seem to over-multitask about 90% of the time. I'm pretty sure I could be 10x more efficient if I was more diciplined or had better concentration.

I'm curious as to how the other guys tackle this, is it something you live with, you constantly work on and improve?

    Wrong section first of all.

I'm not quite sure why we should motivate you. That's really up to you. If you haven't made a single dollar online, you've not implemented anything useful, that's for sure. I started out by wasting a lot of money too, but BHW got me on the right track and I'm not starting to earn some decent pocket money.

Did you do any keyword research at all?

I get motivated by checking adsense, rank tracker and google analytics. If you need others to motivate you, you obviously don't want this enough.

    You are suffering from procrastination.

    go get help.

2 months to do that site is really bad.
Most people can do that in a day if they write the articles, less than that if they outsource them

    Go get help.

I don't need other people to motivate me, I need the feeling of being responsible to keep the readers updated, and therefore doing work. I'm not sure if it's a crazy idea, but it's definitely worth a shot!

I wonder if really you doubt that the site you are working on will ever make you any money.

I dont know if it will or not - but I must admit - I find that working for nothing is hard to do at the outset of a project - the KILLER being that there are never any guarantees that your work will pay in the long run. Of course - quite often it does not........

Jackpot! That is my exact problem.

Any suggestions on what to do about it?

Also, what do you all think about Linkwheel Bandit vs. SenukeX?

I wanted to chime in here with my thoughts on procrastonation and how to beat it. It is a problem that EVERYONE faces at one time or another and it affects some people for a long period of time.

First of all, there's nothing wrong with you. Not even the drugs. Many artists are on drugs and still have the follow through to create their art, so that's definately not it. There's nothing else wrong with you either. Procrastination is natural. You just need to learn the tools to beat it.

Procrastination can come from feelings of defeat, feelings that what you're doing is too hard, feelings of being overwhelmed, over anylisis of what you have to do and other thigns. So keeping these causes in mind, I suggest these two things to you:
    1. Get a task list together and let it be your boss.
    2. Get some quick wins under your belt to motivate you.

    1. Get a task list together and let it be your boss.
It's easy to think that you have soooo much to do that you end up never starting anything. Come up with a grand list of things you need to do. Break each one of those thigns down to their individual steps. Then once this list is created, don't change it. At least not for a little while. Just work the list. Check off things as you complete them. Let the list keep you focused on your next task.

    List example:
    Keyword reaseach
    Build site
    Create backlinks

    Now break that down:
    keyword research
    - check google searches
    - check competition in SEOMoz/traffic travis
    - etc, etc.

Once you have each thing broken down, do it! When you find your mind wandering go back to the next task.

Also, try to break your work down into 45 min chunks so your mind doesn't get tired. 45 min work, 15 min play or distraction. Then back to working from your task list.

    2. Get some quick wins under your belt
This is probably the most important thing you can do. Success makes you want more success. So the quicker you rank something, the more motivated you will be to continue on. But how do you rank quickly if you've been doing this for a year and had no success? I suggest you use the expertise of someone else who knows what their doing. Buy a BHW gig. I am currently using something called BlackHoleSEO and it has gotten a lawsite that I have to page 1 in about 4 weeks. Cool thing is that it went from no where to page 5 and rose steadily from there. This was motiviation. My next step was to see what BlackHoleSEO was doing and try to see if I could do it on my own. I'm in the process of doing that now.

So the lessen to learn here is, don't be afraid to outsource. Outsourcing allows you to get work done more quickly and scale up. this will get you quick and constantly victories so you will feel as if you're doing something.

Procrastination is something we all have to face, but it can be overcome. Get your system (task list) together on paper. Then follow it. And if you find that you don't have the time/discipline/motiviation/skills to do something, then outsource it! This way you get a motivating victory while you figure out how to do the work on your own.

    Good luck!

    Pasted from somewhere else.
Hope it might help you as I have the same problem as well:

    Anti-Procrastination Strategies

Procrastination is a habit ? a deeply ingrained pattern of behavior. That means that you won?t just break it overnight. Habits only stop being habits when you have persistently stopped practising them, so use as many approaches as possible to maximize your chances of beating procrastination. Some tips will work better for some people than for others, and for some tasks than others. And, sometimes, you may simply need to try a fresh approach to beat the ?procrastination peril?!
These general tips will help motivate you to get moving:
Make up your own rewards. For example, promise yourself a piece of tasty flapjack at lunchtime if you've completed a certain task. And make sure you notice how good it feels to finish things!
Ask someone else to check up on you. Peer pressure works! This is the principle behind slimming and other self-help groups, and it is widely recognized as a highly effective approach.
Identify the unpleasant consequences of NOT doing the task.
Work out the cost of your time to your employer. As your employers are paying you to do the things that they think are important, you're not delivering value for money if you're not doing those things. Shame yourself into getting going!
Aim to ?eat an elephant beetle? first thing, every day!
If you're pocrastinating because you're disorganized, here's how to get organized!
Keep a To-Do list so that you can?t ?conveniently? forget about unpleasant or overwhelming tasks.
Use an Urgent/Important Matrix to help prioritize your to-do list so that you can?t try to kid yourself that it would be acceptable to put off doing something on the grounds that it?s unimportant, or that you have many urgent things which ought to be done first when, in reality, you?re procrastinating.
Become a master of scheduling and project planning, so that you know when to start those all-important projects.
Set yourself time-bound goals: that way, you?ll have no time for procrastination!
Focus on one task at a time.
If you're putting off starting a project because you find it overwhelming, you need to take a different approach. Here are some tips:
Break the project into a set of smaller, more manageable tasks. You may find it helpful to create an action plan.
Start with some quick, small tasks if you can, even if these aren't the logical first actions. You'll feel that you're achieving things, and so perhaps the whole project won't be so overwhelming after all.
If you?re procrastinating because you find the task unpleasant:
Many procrastinators overestimate the unpleasantness of a task. So give it a try! You may find that it?s not as bad as you thought!
Hold the unpleasant consequences of not doing the work at the front of your mind.
Reward yourself for doing the task.
Finally, if you?re procrastinating because you can?t decide what action to take, and are putting off making a decision because you?re nervous about making the wrong choice, see our decision-making section. This teaches a range of powerful and effective decision-making techniques.
Remember: the longer you can spend without procrastinating, the greater your chances of breaking this destructive habit for good!

    Great advice, seorockstar.

The to OP, it doesn't get any easier even if you're making money. I still get distracted by "Shiny Object Syndrome" even though I am making lots now.

You just have to buckle down and stay focused. Commit yourself to checking things off a task list every day, and just keep adding content. The more stuff you throw out there, the better chances that something will stick.

Checking YouTube, your stats (unless you're doing split testing), Facebook, and even BHW (like I'm lazily doing right now instead of working) is generally a colossal waste of your time.

Target some low search volume, low competition "buyer keywords" on a site if you need some motivation with a few sales.

Only one small advise, stop smoking marijuana, it is well known as demotivational drug, drug of laziness. Its fun when you are fifteen and have plenty of time and dont really want to do anything, but when you want to do something with your life its better to smoke this less..

Lack of motivation is going to make you want to procrastinate. Sounds like you need to start much smaller and make some money, if only a few dollars a day. At the moment you are making this real hard for yourself by going after a 55k a month niche. If you don't have a motivation it will take you a long, long time to rank top for it.

Start by doing some proper keyword research, find a niche for adsense or amazon that has little-to-no competition (pay some1 else to do this if you can't) and around 1000 searches a month. Then rank it to 1, which should be easy with your tools. Then you will at least have made some money and I am sure you will be motivated to do it again.

one of my main problems was I never really treated this like a real job.

once you get that in your mindset that this is in actual job.. you will do better.

you can't logon to youtube, facebook, even here when you start your day.. you will just end up procrastinating all day. I'm at my day job right now.. and I'm logged in facebook and here.. I work at a mindless 9-5 and I have all kinds of timewasters I do while I'm here.

but for you to actually succeed when you are your only worker/boss is to treat this like a real job.

give yourself some hours to work each day.. and don't do any timewasters that you'd normally do at a 9-5 job.. because you aren't getting paid by the hour.. you're getting paid by what you do.

I will never understand how anyone writes 10 articles in one day. I think that whole mindset is the problem for many. I don't write an article unless it is something worth reading. I spend 1 week on 1 article - and that 1 article is usually 2,000 words +

IDK man honestly you need to stop worrying about all these fancy tools - senukex, SB, linkwheel bandit. Ignore all that shit. That's where you are getting lost. If I were you I'd spend my time building a quality adsense site to start - something people actually want to read. Once you have been in the game for a while and start to understand how the Internet works a little better - switch over to blackhat. I would not start with blackhat by any means - but that is me.
