This is catered toward noobs but I've seen even some seasoned veterans who neglect some important aspects.

Your best bet is find a market where there is demand. Considering America and most of the world isn't doing too well.. I would suggest something like debt consolidation, or financial advisement. I just thought of that as I was typing, I may use that one myself ^_^ Now it is an over saturated market I'm sure.. IDK I haven't done the research.

There are several automated programs floating around BHW that select related keywords for you, I still like to take a personal approach and use the Google Keyword Tool. You type in a keyword phrase and then it displays the amount of searches preformed for that phrase and related phrases. In addition shows you how much advertising is done with that phrase. You want to find phrases that are highly searched for yet not over saturated with advertising IE competition. This is easier said than done. But remember google loves unique content. Make sure to throw in some common key phrases too.

One thing I like to do is find popular keywords and then form a domain that way, as opposed to choosing a domain that makes sense to the reader... Think about it, where is your primary source of traffic coming from? Search engines. So make a domain name that makes them happy. Another great way -if you have the money and are looking to build a brand - is to buy two domain names.

For example the guys behind Internet Business Mastery (InternetBusinessMastery.com) chose the common keywords "Internet Business" the word "Mastery" was added for uniqueness and it did a good job of furthering their brand. However they went a step further and purchased http://www.internet-based-business-mastery.com which did a great job of pleasing the search engines. "internet based business" is a highly searched for keyword phrase and that really helped them.

Feel free to ask any specific questions you might have and I'll answer them as best as I can.
