Hey everyone,
For the last 20 years I've been outsourced for software development. I've worked on some pretty awesome stuff in that time including some popular Console/Mobile games.
In 2016, I started a course website on teaching game development. Then for the first time ever, in 2017 I started development of my own, first software product. It initially started out as a bit of a "side project" whilst I was still teaching and still being outsourced for game and app development.
Within the first year, the niche software product I had developed, which was initially targeted at game developers, was picked up by 1-2 gamers and from month 9, sales exploded.
I then went on to write a second version of the software, making it bigger and better, integrating features users had asked for. Before I know it, within 1.5 years, this software had taken over my life. It was making enough for me to work on full-time without having to do any additional work.
I used my SEO skills that I had developed over the last 20 years to ensure the website was SEO'd from day dot and the same goes for YouTube.
Fast-forward to 2024 and I'm now a limited company and we have expanded the product range and services we provide, but the main software is still very niche (no competition) and gamers take up around 75% of our consumer base, game developers 25%.
I originally wanted to sell just the product, but it looks like I will need the sell the business as a whole. I'm far from rich, but the way I've set it up is fully automated so I can work 80 hours a week or I can work 0 hours a week.
Our site domain is 6 years old. Great standing with Google and we are first page results for 99% of our targeted keyphrases. Absolutely 0 additional marketing is required but with boosted marketing, it can yield even greater success.
The overheads are very minimal. The only thing to extract from the yearly income is hosting, domain name renewals, payment processor fees. They are the only fees.
I am looking for people's opinions on wanting to sell up because quite frankly, I feel like I am ready for a new direction in life. I have been thinking about Flippa/RightBiz etc. But here are some numbers below and I'm happy to welcome opinions on what I should do.
Thanks in advance!
