This is of course heartbreaking because the page was ugly and out of date before so we decided to update it since Google felt it was worth of a #1 position, we thought we would make it so. Big mistake. So now I am left wondering. Google shows 1600 pages and there are only have that. But I do see that all of the old pages are still indexed. Most of the new pages have not kept the same names. A few have but not most. I was told some time ago that these pages would automatically drop off over time so I didn't do anything with them. Now I'm beginning to wonder if they do actually drop off? Why? Take for example that if you have pages that you do not want visitors to your website to view and they don't link directly to any pages from within your site; google says you can submit a .txt page wit the urls on it. So in a case like that where google indexes urls with no direct links from your site, it would be about the same thing as old pages from my site that have been remodeled. At least that is my thinking anyway. So do I need to do anything? It sucks badly to lose that kind of rank just because I made a site look better. I have a bounce rate of 23% and average site time of 5:23. I'm just bummed.
