My site is dropping dramatically

Hi,

My website is 8 years old it had only 500 backlinks spread on 3000 pages, So according to SEO side my website is still virgin for google, I made a mistake and during the last google update which is based on catching the spammy sites - I built about 150 links in the last 2 months (Well it's a mistake) so my website dropped from #15 to #110 (not all the website) just some main inner pages but they were the main pages I rely on. But so far I didn't get any messages from GSC !


So the question now is : IF my website caught by the last google update and it gets some of links down, WHAT SHALL I DO ?

Shall I disvow some links ?
Shall I just get one or 2 strong links from CNN, BBC..etc so they could make balance?
-Please let me know if you have any other good idea based on experience please.

I'm very nervous for real, So please just give me your answer if it's based on experience - thank you

Disavowing the new links is the most sure way to go here. The site could get the serp positions back in a matter of weeks/months
 
The case seems very similar to over-optimized anchors,
It really depends on what type of links did you actually built, disavowing doesn't count as the right option by now, but you should focus on building some good links
Are you in the gambling niche by any luck?

Wouldn't you disavow the links even they dropped u from #15 to #110 ?
 
Meh. I doubt disavowing would benefit you.
Chances are that the links that made you rank well before have received lower priority due to new Google updates, rather than you actually directly getting punished.

If I got punished GSC must send me an email - Is that correct?

They probably would, but I doubt it's guaranteed.
Continue to build links with variety and you should start climbing ranks again.
As long as they're still indexed I wouldn't be too worried.

Guys I think what you saying about is when I drop from #10 to #15-#25 but not from #15 to #110 ! Well now I just checked all the keywords for that exact page are down literally all of them - So can we call this a penalty ? and if it's a penalty google should send us ?

Just keep building links, post content, and see what happens. Sudden changes in ranks happen, but you're still indexed. See where you're at in a week or a month for that matter.
Have you cross-checked with several different ranking trackers as well?
 
I have a few questions

- How long has it been hovering at #110?
- Has it been stable in top 10 before
- how many of those spam links you made were actually indexed?
- did you make them or did you buy them?
- do you have access to those links, can you manually remove them yourself
- how spam are the spam links we talking about? if its pure trash links, google probably wouldn't even count it
- So for 8 years, before you made those 150 links, did you ever have backlinks, even if its gradually a few a month
- Have you made any changes to any articles that has dropped in rankings, prior to the rank droppings (let's say 1-2 months before, maybe even more, depending how often your site gets crawled)
- Since the rank droppings, have you made any changes on your site?

If you want to grow you website follow few golden rules to grow your website. First of all optimize your content like, Title, Meta tags, Content, Alt tags, hyperlink, Out bound link, In bound link,. Always publish new content without any plagiarism. Make the solid back link in place of face back link.
 
Since the damage was done by your backlink-building efforts, start there.

Disavow those bad links.

Also, I would focus more on producing high-quality content.

Create new content for lower-competition keyword targets.

Here's the secret: since I'm assuming, based on what you've shared, that you already have certain pages that rank better than everything else on your site, create internal links from those high-ranking pages to your newer higher-quality content that target lower-competition keywords.

If you play your cards right, you will offset whatever traffic you lost from the bad links you created with the increased rankings of your new pages.

Since you're targeting less competitive keywords, you should be able to dominate those listings, and this can increase your domain authority.

I don’t mean to rub it in your face, but you harmed your domain authority by building bad backlinks.

But there's still hope—you can disavow those bad links and, at the same time, create quality content, so you can lift yourself out of that hole.

Is this going to happen overnight? Of course not.

But it’s definitely worth doing.
 
Disavow all 150 if they are poor quality links.
Get new audit report of the status of your website.
Which particular algorithm update affected it?
It could be possible your website did not pass the core web vitals so work on each individual pages to improve on this.
Create and increase the nos of quality contents on the site.
Finally, have Patience while you dig deeper into your research
 
build quality links with the help of guest posting or link insertion
 
leave the bad links and start creating some quality links, don't do something with the links you bought.

Start with quality link from low to high with natural speed.

Remove spam links.
 
You can check with the Backlinks Spam Checker tool and find out what it affected. AW start building high-quality links from good DA and relevant websites.
