    Hey Guys,
My sister recently started her hand made jewelry business(Now her full-time Job). I have been trying to help her in my free time with marketing but currently it is basically word of mouth throughout our family and facebook networking. She does have a website(although it's just using a Free wordpress theme at the moment) and Facebook Fan Page. We plan on trying to find a premium theme with a great e-store she may use to avoid any etsy, ebay and all those type of fees.

Her current website below - don't be too harsh...this was fixed up in a few moments just to have web presence.
    Code:
    www.thefunkytangerine.com
We plan on setting up some Facebook Ad campaigns soon also.

Other than your typical FB/G/Bing ads - does anyone have some genius ideas that may help get more notice? :O

I guess ebay is always an option but we tried last year when she was doing it as a hobby. The profit margin really sucks considering the competition from all over the world in handmade jewelry. The ebay fees, listing fees, and then paypal fees on top of it really eats any profit in this niche.

Currently most of her sales come from word of mouth, family members, friends, and trade shows she attends. She has also had a few "Trunk Shows" (customers will host a show in their home inviting their friends/family - she brings the product and will give the host a % of the sales) but nothing major as of yet.

Each piece of jewelry is accompanied by a business card with all contact info for hopeful future customers. Do you think this is overkill?

    How about this:

A Twitter account where she tweets about her products AND someting not directly related - like Fashion or Stars and Actors to gain some additional followers who would be potential customers.

Google+ Account doing basically the same as the twitter account.

You could book some gigs on fiverr who offer retweets to spread the name of your product.

Drop her products on amazon - no fees...

Depending on your location (if you are form the US) you could "drop" some of the products in front of the houses of some stars and actors and hope that they will keep the jewelry, eventually wear it and get photographed with it...

    cheers olystyle

No matter what selling platform you use (your own site, Etsy, eBay) you should post photos of the jewelry on Pinterest. It's mostly women on there, so if they like the looks of the stuff they'll find their way back to your sales site and buy it.

I agree saveferris has got a point here - pinterest would be a great platform to share various phothographs of your sisters jewelery - beside that you/she could consider to set up an instagram account and tumblr account aswell...

    cheers

Amazon is definately an option but also tons of competition - we'll have to figure to get items seen.

Virginia Beach isn't a prime location for any mainstream stars but we'll figure something out on this one!

Dropshipping sounds reasonable - will give her free promotion from friends trying to make a few extra bucks as well :O

    Thanks for your ideas!

Why the hell did we not think of this, such an obvious one.....my sister is browsing that damn site daily. I never really got into pinterest, that's more of her realm. We will definately have to set up some type of campaign over there.

    Thanks again!

If she know the skill, and you know the IM, it is simple then.

Let her to ETSY,there so many handmade craft seller in that site. All she need is make pretty good jewelries and list them in ETSY with nice photos( Remember it is very important to attract customers). Then she should do two works, the one is continue to make nice jewelry, the other one is taking part in the ETSY's community, Favorite other's shop and works, add many similar friends, to their forum post some useful tips or tutories...With many friends there and enough reputation, if her work is really good and original, she would get on the ETSY's home page featured story, that will make her big sale.

And you, you know the IM, so you should know your work. Pinterest, facebook,twitter...use social network to help her.

1.market with giftcards maybe a 5 dollar giftcard once they like your facebook fanpage and enter there email.. get a script made for that.. just mark up the shipping a bit to make up for the giftcard..

    2. also use popular youtube vlogers and let them review the jewelery

    3. get a picture contest going

    4. get a viral picture going that will make people say "omg!!" that they will share with there Facebook friends.

I really like the idea of getting a popular youtube vlogger to review her jewelry. I will have to get her to make some pieces she'd be willing to give out and see what we can do.

tumblr, pinterest, weheartit, polyvore and lookbook pop into my mind. The first three are straight forward xD
polyvore: create sets using one or two of her crafts. Maybe host a contest where the users have to use one of it... idk xD
lookbook: find someone that is from your area very active and got a good taste in fashion. Ask him to do some lookbook pics wearing her crafts... or your sis could do that herself.

    Hi,

The web site looks good but still need some customization, hire a designer if it's possible! I guess you have to target beauty/fashion bloggers. She can make a lot of money if one (or more) famous bloggers take pictures of them or of the product and putting a link to her site (Or even drop the product on amazon and tell them to use amazon affiliation, they will be making money - Or you can use "ETSY" as mentionned above).

Use social networks and focus on Pinterest and Instagram!! You said that your sister work Full time on her business, teach her how to use social medias (I mean the marketer way) and let her grow her followers day by day.

More than that, tell her to make a "personnal" blog, where she will give tips and advices to people who want to make handmade jewelry. Tell her to shoot some videos and tutorials and keep track of her community. She can also make something like a journey in her blog, talk about her business, her dialy tasks .. etc. She can even give Freebies or Start competitions (with free jewelry as reward) ...

If you need a list of fashion bloggers, I can help you with that. Just Pm me and I'll send you a good list.

Hey, I'm also working on etsy at the moment. have webiste set up, facebook, twitter etc. have only made a couple of sales but the profit margin i'm working on is pretty good even after the fees. I trying out etsy search ads today to see how that works out. we should exchange tips
