I was hesitant to post this because it might get saturated. I am not sure how legal this is or if your competitor can sue you for this if they notice. But I have done it before. Please do me a favor and don't abuse this.

Do an ahrefs search on your competitor
Go to whoever is linking to them and send them an email
in the email, say "Hi there. Please replace [competitor's link] with this link [your link]
That's it. Ask and you shall receive.

Just curious, how many times have you been told by "whoevers" to fuck off?

Yes, it's a dick move. People like you don't last long in the IM business.

    hi guys

the success rate is very low but it's worth it if you are stuck on page 2, you have run out of web 2.0s, you have run out of blog comments, you are out of PBNs, you are bascially out of ideas.
MonteCarlos, that sounds like identity theft, I wouldn't recommend pretending to be someone else

Yep, one of our clients initiated criminal proceedings against a competitor doing this like 5 years ago, ended with a substantial fine and an additional lawsuit to claim damages. Ok, Europe, but I'd assume it's not that different in the US.

So, don't do it, suggesting a link for a broken link is fine, trying to get links from the same sites as your competitors is fine, just don't try to get links to competitors replaced by pretending to be them.

Do you know which country in Europe this was, or even better, do you know any company names that were involved in this? Just curious about lawsuits about breaking the law online in general.
