I started playing a computer game circa 2001 (12 years old) called Delta Force 2 and joined a squad that actually had a website. I was AMAZED at this fact, that something small could have an actual website! So immediately, I wanted to know how to do this. GeoCities hooked me UP! I dragged and dropped my ass off, bragged about it, and people were impressed. I learned HTML and started whipping stuff up in Notepad and got to the point where I could do anything with it! I got into Photoshop, 3d Studio Max, Bryce... got work with local realtors, lawyers, even put ads on e-bay for a $99 website. I loved doing it, and started making money! Then I realized what I was offering for $99 was what corporations couldn't do for thousands! not even 6 months later I started learning PHP. Bought a book, typed out the examples, but what I really learned from was finding a script that did what I wanted it to and actually breaking down WHAT it was doing. I decided to go to school for graphic design and web development. Paid my tuition by doing just that... doesn't make sense, does it? You can read BHW all day, every day, most of it is motivation and ideas to build off of. It will give you the basics, the fundamentals of our business, but the big picture that you must take from it that it is all in the idea, and all in the numbers. It's ALL in the numbers, baby. In my opinion, if I had wished someone had given me this advice when I started, this is what I'd want them to say: Work your ass off to find something that starts to make you $1 a day. Write down what you're doing, track what that helped, or hindered. Whatever you find helps, keep doing it (DUH!) - Whatever hinders, STOP! Change stuff around if you're not getting what you want, again find what helps and what doesn't and do as above... (DUH!) Traffic is everything... Where is all the traffic online? YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Craigslist .... most of all? GOOGLE! The point is, it's all really, really, really, really simple, once you get down to it. But it's like Golf simple (get the ball in the hole with a stick, right?) Don't think about it too much. Just do what you love, and the money will eventually flow.
