My pc started to make a loud humming noise a few days ago,so i opened it up and found some dust on the fans (the heatsink fan was really bad) so i cleaned it all up and it still makes this loud noise. Sometimes i don't hear it for 4-5 hours and then it comes back and its so loud that even my desk vibrates. i cant figure it out.:(

Check the fans on the processor, graphics card (higher-end) and the power supply. Vibrations like that can usually be traced to a fan with bad bearings. Other possibility is that the power supply is shot.

It does sound like a fan issue, but be sure to back everything up just in case it crashes.

Too bad I didn't care when it happened to me.

There is a simple test to know if it is a fan. For a second or two put a finger or better a towel's end on each fan stopping it while the pc is running and making the noise.

The power supply fan can be blocked safely with a pencil or something else non conductive.

Do 1 thing, open ur window, and throw that sound machine out of your window, and then go and get a new quad core laptop.

From the loudness and the amount of vibration that you say it is putting out, I'd bet money that it is your power supply fan. Just open up the case and use your ears to figure out which fan it is. No need to replace it as long as that sound keeps going, if the sound stops, then you should check to make sure the fan is still running.

Why not just unplugg the power source for the fans one by one to test?
A tipical desktop system would have 5 fans at max:
    system fan,
    cpu fan,
    graphic card fan,
    hd fan
    Inside your power supply( caution!)

Now unplugg them(when the power is OFF) one by one (without the one in the power supply) restart and find out which one is the problem.

The most important thing, though, is - can it hold a tune while it hums?

that happened to me as well and i figured it out to be the pc case fans.Removed both of them, bought just one from ebay and its running fine now without one damn noise.Dusty fans could be a cause in your case.
