After browsing through the journey threads here...AND more importantly seeing the support and cheers that the community gives, I figured: "Hey, a good portion of these threads lead to success, why not start mine and see where it goes?"

The appeal of making money in your pajamas (and the payoff is skies the limit, too, depending on how tough and determined you are) is just too sweet for me to resist. PLUS, the fact that the whole community is keeping an eye on your progress is something that motivates me even MORE. And so, I start this journey thread - ready to be criticized (constructively I hope), fall flat on my face, and ULTIMATELY succeed.

A word of note: this journey thread won't be like many that you have read. Unlike others, my tools are very limited. There's no SENuke, Magic Submitter, GSA, etc. sitting on my hard drive. I don't have the technical / coding skills. My link building experience is next to nothing. I think the only tools I have at my disposal are my writing skills (and I'm not even that good) and a lot of heart.

So how do I intend to make money?

Infobarrel + Mini-Authority Affiliate Sites (20-30 Pages Of Content)
Nope, I won't be using Youtube + PPD or + Clickbank, which seems to be the method of choice in many of the journey threads.

Rather, my goal is to make at least 150 keyword-optimized and monetized Infobarrel articles, and build at least 5 Mini-Authority Sites in niches that I have substantial knowledge of. It's not going to be a quick journey to riches, but it's something I have experience on.

And I know that if I build those, get them optimized and SEO'd, and monetized well, I AM CERTAIN I WILL MAKE MONEY.

Back in 2010-2011, I built a free Blogger blog that promotes products and training courses related to my niche (which I am passionate about). The first two months are slow. I did nothing but add QUALITY and ORIGINAL content to that free blog. And since I suck at SEO and link building, the backlinks I've built are very minimal. Though the links and articles are high quality and informative, building them took A LOT of time.

To add to my misery, I targeted the wrong keywords! Did I mention that I also suck at keyword research back then? I didn't even know the difference between EXACT and PHRASE match. I ended up targeting keywords that I thought had 700-1000+ searches, when in reality, they only have 100+ to 200+ searches.

BUT here's the thing, THAT UGLY BLOG MADE MONEY!

It started small - about $60 on the fourth month, but damn! It felt like I just won the million-dollar lotto. It was my first online money that didn't come from writing and working my ass off for someone else (used to be a content writer). Slowly but surely, that little cash cow of mine made progress to the point that it delivered $200-400/month for three months consistently.

Everything is going as planned. Life is good.

...AND then I had to stop. My finances took a turn for the worse. The Panda updates caused my clients (whose sites were hit) to switch their attention and spending on professional SEO services to recover instead getting content from me. The money that the blog is bringing isn't enough I had to find a 9-to-5 (and FAST), and this meant I won't have the time to take care of that little, ugly, but money-making blog of mine.

Another year has passed and I have completely forgotten about IM and my blog, which, as expected, stopped delivering dough.

BUT last month, I got an email from the affiliate company saying that I have earned $50+...from IT! Maybe my first and only blog has a mind of its own...he's DYING but still gave me that wake-up slap to remind me of what I have started, what I am capable of, and what I've been dreaming day-in and day-out.

All of these brought me here and gave life to this thread.

Well, this thread intro has turned into somewhat a bio so let's cut it here for now. I fold my sleeves and tighten my shoe laces...it's gonna be a long journey. :D

Thanks very much folks. The updates might be a little slow compared to other Journey Threads as I have to work at graveyard shift for an IT company...but rest assured the updates will come. :D

We're all here to fight the same battle, that of pen, upon ink. You rely nothing from your past to make you? Can you concentrate on what you want to become 100%? If you answered yes, than you are ready to take the next step towards actually doing something with your life! What more do I have to say, than do it!

@RaveHi Yeahp, that's what it all boils down to: Doing what you have to do.

I am somewhat of a perfectionist, so that's another challenge. I got to curb that tendency to pay attention to details in unhealthy proportions...unhealthy because it slows you down to a crawl.

Anyway, just some progress report: just uploaded 3 articles to Infobarrel - spanning over 3000 words, complete with pictures, and with affiliate links sprinkled throughout. I hope it gets published soon. Again, thanks for the support BHW.

For now, I'll sleep as I have to do some selling on the phone later. :D

Your encouragements are very much appreciated.

I'm at my desk right now...but plan to sneak as much IM-related work as possible. I've got a list of 15 keywords to target. 3 articles based on these keywords have already been created, and I plan to make more after my shift.

For now, I'll hunt for 4-5 LSI keywords/terms for the each of the 12 keywords left to target...WITHOUT getting caught. Hahaha.

    PROGRESS REPORT:
    3/150 Infobarrel Articles

I logged into Infobarrel a few minutes ago, and SURPRISE! 3 out of the 3 articles I have submitted have been published. And to make things even better, I got a fairly high score on each of them. :) Just 147 Infobarrel articles more to go.

As for the LSI terms, I have completed the research for 5 Keywords. That's it for now folks.

    PROGRESS REPORT:
It's a good day today, the bosses are on a meeting and I've exceeded the monthly quota. :D That said, I was able to chill out a bit and do some research. ALL 60 LSI Terms (for my 12 keywords) have been compiled.

    SO WHAT'S THE PLAN?
First, I think my three published articles need some editing:

    1. Add at least an image with a keyword-filename
    2. Add some LSI terms and change the tags

    That's it for now.

    PROGRESS REPORT:
At last, I've seen some cash. :D It's not a lot ($0.02), but I can't help but smile. With only 3 articles that have been live for about 3 days, I can't help but feel even more motivated. I can almost feel the inevitability of making MORE out of what I'm doing 4 to 6 months down the road.

PLAN FOR TODAY: Finish at least 2-3 more articles (at roughly 1000+ words each)...and come up with a plan to drive more traffic to it.

PROGRESS REPORT: My first three articles are starting to get more views and reads. Along with that, I have uploaded two (2) more pieces of content, and both are over 1000+ words...complete with affiliate links, images, and LSI keywords sprinkled throughout. So I'm now sitting at 5/150 Infobarrel Articles.

"What's The BIG DEAL About Having 1000+ Words On Every Article?"
I have read somewhere before (and I forgot where it was...SILLY ME!) that the average words in many of the Top 3 Search Results in Google are between 1000-2000 words. It was backed by statistics, which is why it caught my eye. And for me, it makes a lot more sense since having that much content gives you more keyword & LSI term placement, more room for on-page optimization, and just allows you to deliver MORE value to your readers.

"Backlinking Plan - BHW, Will This Work?"
As soon as I get 5 pieces of content up my plan is to interlink them. What I'm wondering though is that, would it result to over-optimization? I know that interlinking your blog posts is one of the best SEO practices especially for minimizing bounce rate, but will it result to the same when applied to article directories and Web 2.0 sites?

Next, after they are interlinked, I would build social bookmarks to it (most likely I'll buy from a BST thread) - 150 bookmarks (mixture of no-follow and do-follow) using generic text for anchors, and maybe 30 or so HIGH PR social bookmarks focusing on the targeted keyword. This shouldn't stop here as good rankings require a diversified backlink profile. Could you recommend a service that can give me a good backlink profile but still has enough juice to help me rank?

    Next On My To-Do List...
I really would like to enjoy the Holiday today, but at the same time, I don't want to completely ignore this project either. At the very least, I should have drafts completed for at least ten more articles.
