Hey, as the title says. The problem is that most of my backlinks links to domain/article.html, how can I update to wordpress that doesn't have .html at the end? and how will this affect rankings? Should I just go for 301 redirects?

We had the same problem. Ideal solution is to find good professional who will convert your site into Wp. Old posts with backlinks should be custom posts. Depending on the size of site it could be expensive.

We took easy and cheap solution - WP integration into old site - WP installation in subfolder as far as I remember Google it

Oh, think I posted this too fast. I found the nice solution which is setting your permalinks to "/%postname%.html" , I think I will stick to it.

You could also consider to put a 301 redirection to your old articles which would match with your new WP posts
