    Hi everyone,
Thanks for stopping by, I'm gamingmaster42, to give a little background I'm a student and I've been in IM for a few years. I've been making a few bucks via micro niche sites, Fiverr etc. I'm just looking to get some spending money.
But this is my first time going into offline marketing so I'm really pumped.

Basically here's my plan, straight to the point. It's kind of mixing up a few things I've read here on BHW.

    1. Make a website like this - "MyCityDentists.com"
    2. Rank it for "My City Dentists"
    3. Send snail mail to dentists around my city and offer to list them for about $200 per month. But put the caveat that only 5 spots are available on the site. So it's more "exclusive".
    4. Fill up the spots.
    5. Rinse and repeat with another niche.

It's pretty exciting for me and I'd like to keep this thread to motivate me and record my progress.

So what I've done so far:
    -Made the site
    -Ordered shipping supplies online
-Have a rough outline of what I want in the letter

The shipping supplies will take a week to get here so in the meantime I'm going to be refining the site and getting some content so it'll be easy to rank the site. Once I get the content I'll do some SEO (competition is not that hard IMO).

    Spent so far:
    $3.17 on domain name
$32.07 - Return labels and rubber stamp (shipping on Vistaprint is WAY too much, will not use again)
    $24.25 - 50 Postage stamps from USPS
    $7.46 - 100 envelopes from Walmart

If you have any questions or comments you can post, sorry if I don't keep this updated everyday by the way, I am a student and college is going to start up soon so I might not have time but I'll try to keep this updated regularly.

    Thanks!!!

    Day 1

    Net Profit: -$66.95

Well, Dentist make good money so you have that going for you..

Good luck, local is tough. You can get luck with less competitive cities but I can bet you there are dozens of marketers like you attempting the same thing, I have friends who have local businesses get emailed daily with similar offers.

    Good luck though,

Thanks, yes I understand that they get bombarded with emails, so that is why I will use snail mail and I think I might go for 7878 route and put a little something in there so I don't get thrown away too easily.

I know, but it could be great if you posted the original author of this idea :). He would be pleased :D.

Well, I'm really sorta combining ideas, I'm not just taking one specific idea.
But sure, shout out to 7878, Veryon, and TheRealRazzy. :)

Well, I've got content now. Just one article I think should be fine. Spent about $4 on it.
I have a couple good SEO softwares on my VPS but it's getting transferred to a new IP, so until that's done can't do much.

Almost every time I read of similar offline efforts, it's aimed at Dentists. I often wonder how many IM offers the average dentist in the average city receives and if they just sit down and wonder where the hell it's all coming from, lol.

Good luck. It'll be interesting if you can manage to land a few clients. It'll be more solid proof that even the most exhausted target market can still yield results if you're willing to take action.

Haha yeah it's probably cuz a lot of threads here on BHW they all give the example of dentists. But if this turns out to be good for me then I'll try out other niches too.

I agree with Enryu, I think you should aim at a different market, dentists are always mentioned here...
And I also think that with a little research you can find much more profitable medical related opportunities.
Anyway, good luck on your journey!

I figure as long as no other IM'er is around targeting dentists in my area I should be fine, and taking a look at the first few pages of Google I don't see my idea implemented. So I think I'll be good.

That's good, you will do well.
I forgot to mention, but one market as a example that should be very profitable: Plastic surgeons.

Thanks for the tip, will definitely consider that as an option if this journey is successful.

    Well today starts day 2.

Purchased a SEO package for $20, when I search it in Incognito on Google Chrome I'm already at the top of page 2 without any backlinking and just because of the new content that I put up. Content is still king it seems. I should be able to crack at least the top 3 positions pretty easily. Normally I do not spend any money on SEO because I do it myself but my VPS was down. (Of course after I spend the $20, the next morning my VPS is re-enabled). I put up a contact, about, and privacy policy too on the site.

Also today got emails of notification of shipment from Vistaprint and Walmart, my stamps are here but I just had them sent to my college mail as I'll be moving in next week anyway.

Lastly I've gotten 15 dentists and addresses and prepared 15 letters, 1 for each. During the first batch I'm going to mail out 25 letters, hopefully at least one will bite. But that of course is after the site gets ranked, just putting together the letters for now.

    Hi,
Didn't do much today as I took the day off. Looks like the SEO is started to kick in though, site rank is now #9 according to my search, but according to Traffic Travis it's #7. Anyone know how I can find out which is really "more correct", i.e. I wouldn't want to tell someone that my site is ranking in the top 3 if it does for me but not for someone else.

Yes, that is what I've done and I get #9. Actually it probably has something to do with my IP. I'm using private proxies on traffic travis.

Still working on just ranking the site.

Site is now at #3 on Bing and Yahoo and #7 on Google. Really though more concerned about Google as that is the engine that returns results based on location. Hopefully get in top 5 soon.
