It has 4gb ram, 500 gb hard drive space. It's pretty nice. Nothing else is installed. I am looking to get stuff on it.

First things first. I am just getting used to 7 (after loving XP). What should I put on first? I suppose I need some anti-virus software? anti-malware and etc.?

    A dell!!!!!!

Yeah, throw on some anti virus. I use AVG because it's free and does the trick. As long as you browse safely, you won't have a problem at all.

It's actually very basic. Just Windows 7. Not sure what I should un-install.

Install win7 64 bits or you will be wasting 1Gb of memory.

    Just go here : ninite.com.

It bundles all your installers together at once so you don't have to do em one at a time.

You bought laptop that can support 32 GB of RAM, and installed only 4 in it?

Throw at least 4 more in it and install some 64 bit OS.

Yes, for now. I'm poor. Maybe my blackhatting will yield be more.

I asked if I should get 32 bit or 64 bit Win 7 a few days ago. No one really had much difference to say.

Win 7 32 bit w/4 gigs of ram is probably going to work GREAT for what you are using it for...I bet your peak usage doesn't go over 4 gigs

I decided to get a laptop although maybe I needed a desktop? I just feel something portable, easily portable, is better.

If I am doing CAD, 3D rendering, Photoshop, programming, it should be fine. Although I am a bit concerned about the heat dissipation?
