My mother came up with a website idea in the Recipe niche, she wanted to call it Yum.com and I found out it was taken.
I advised her to try Yumm but it was taken too. I said she should try a .com for ease of search, she could probably get a .net but every site I've run had to use that.

The idea isn't even 24 hours old and since the Yum and Yumm is food/recipe niche, she said she won't do it.

I am losing my voice explaining how the concept of hers is unique, and that there's a competitor in EVERY market, doesn't mean you quit. But because the first name that came to her mind is taken, she quits the whole thing. And she thinks I'm treating her awfully because I'm encouraging her not to quit. I told her to think of a new name, she thinks I need a new name NOW and I never said that.

Women in their 40s.....Lord help me. I just want her to have something of her own to run.

I do love her to death and beyond, but I never voice my personal life here and needed to let it out.

Go fusclemuscle yourself, you can't say that your mother is a failure.
secondly, what do you expect us to do? Tell you to contact the owner of yum.com and ask if you could buy the domain from him/her??

    goodluck..

Jesus people. I'm not asking for anything, just letting out some frustration on a site I never complain on, I am not the first to do this?

My mother is not a failure of a mother of course. She just never follows through with anything, she collects government checks almost all my life, I shouldn't have expected her to go through but...damnit, I just get depressed seeing her do nothing with her life. I'm sorry for pissing anyone off but I am human too.

Honestly, never deny other peoples idea's. Be it you mothers, friends, G/Fs, w/e. Every thought is an idea, you just need to manipulate that idea into something practical, to become a successful venture, if the right actions are taken.

Aside from the general outlook of your situation...

"Yum" is the CentOS/Ubuntu update command! Of course it is taken :p

I know that, and why it bothered me this time I don't know.

I'm addicted/passionate about great ideas and she has so many recipes lying around that NOBODY else has. I end up being more driven than the person with an idea. I'm sick of that. Yes, I am ranting like a stupid little child. But maybe someone out there had an understanding of me, apparently not.

You could do some research for her and find a great domain that is available. Then sell her on why that domain name is so good.

Thank you Hadoken, and everyone that didn't assume I'm mean to my mother.
I understand now this thread should rightfully be called "My mother quits so easily".
It's so easy to rant when you get going, so I'll just shutup now and move on. Thank you again.

Thank you. I leave thoughtful posts and I come off as reputable. I show a little emotion and suddenly I'm a 15 year old child here. Now I understand to become a high rep member, I have to never speak of my personal life. Good thing I never gave a shit about rep, green bars don't make a man.

throw three of her recipes on recipezaar or food.com - people will make it and they will rate it and comment. it's a very active community. i used to pay $100.00 for some copcat recipes when i actually had money. anyway, you didn't say anything wrong. if the people give her 4-5 stars it might give her the spark she needs. she's jaded and tired, maybe a spark will get the fire going!

Doesn't sound like your mom has too much left to teach you, hope you're old enough to move out soon.

Ha, I never ask questions on here (as a thread I made) or put personal things. Most of the people on this forum have proven to me that they are a bunch of jerks and could care less about your person life, who you are, etc. Unless you are an admin or someone that donates - then you are actually a person. I have never vented on a thread I made, but I have asked questions and either received nasty or sarcastic comments or nasty or sarcastic private messages. So why am I here? To make money, but Ill never make another thread asking anyone for anything that's for sure. Kind of sad considering this is a forum and you should be allowed to ask questions. By the way, YES people, MANY MANY people have made venting threads on this website. Unfortunately you are not an admin, someone that donates or pays for membership, a VIP or anything else - so expect to be shat upon (besides from the folks here that actually answered you nicely and helped).

I would say contact the domain owner and see if they would part from the domain. I have a few domains that I re-up every year, but I'm not really doing anything with them right this second. Perhaps he or she would be willing to give it to you... for cheap. Another thing you can do is look for other domains LIKE Yum.com, which is something you already tried doing. There are domain finder websites that help you find domains like the ones you want. One of my favorite ones is called http://www.dotomator.com/ Seems like a silly website, but I have used it along with a few other sites to find that perfect domain name. OKay, so it's a food or recipe site, right? In the first column you put words say, food, recipe, eat (lol), yum. Second column you do the same. If you want you can get them to help you by choosing from the menu, different options like Simple Colors, Fancy Colors, V..., etc. Then you can click the combine button to combine those words you chose or you let them help you choose. I got 60 results using food, recipe, eat, yum and yum along with "shop." Once you get the results, you click check availability. Ta da.

Some are available, some are not. You just have to sift through them. Just remember that it is her site and she wants to run it so she has to like the name. I have had a cooking/recipe site for about 5 years now. It's fun, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. I wanted it to be a community thing. Whereas it's more of a me thing. Anyway, good luck in your ventures and your mom's website and maybe next time you will think twice about venting anywhere on this forum. If I do have a question for someone specific, I try to leave a PM, it gets you less attention (and less bull).
