Hi guys, I just dropped out of college to do IM full time, i'm the owner of a pretty big and profitable email list, and making 8k/month on average. But now my MoM is pissed off at me, pretty much my whole family are. They say stuff like "that is not a real job" and "what are you going to do without an education" and "The internet is a scam" they just can't uderstand that IM is my passion and what i love. Anyone got an idea on what to tell them? anyone has experienced something like this? i'm only 17 btw.

Congrats on making some real money online. Stick with it. If you are making 8k a month, then eventually your family will see the light.

yeah, i guess so. But they think that internet marketing is a scam, and that i'm not smart enough to keep it going even though i have been in the game for 5 years..

Education will only help you... why don't you do such course which may help you further with IM and your family remain happy... Basic purpose of education is open your mind so it can explore opportunity...

I have faced similar situation with my parents and I have to fight my way in... They wanted me to go and join some B-School and I refused because I wanted to start in IM... It took them around 2 year to accept that I am doing good...

Try to talk to them and if they don't understand then find some thing which will help you in long run or find such course which will require less time and keep doing IM. This way you and your family both will remain happy... Once you 18th then you will have more say in your life... Till then keep finding mid way...

What they say and what they teach in college is bullshit man, they don't teach you how to make money or how to really run a business, all that can be learned here - online.

I dropped out too so I could focus more on IM work and to be honest I don't feel any regret!

And now I'm making more than any of my friends who have a degree. All they learned was how to work for someone else and not for them selves and now when the work market has gone down they are out of jobs or working in shitty places!

thx for all the great answers guys!! really gave me some motivation to keep going. Also shes trying to force me to work 10 hours a day in a supermarket to teach me how a real job is. Shes saying that thats where i will end up if i do not get an education -.- 10 hours a day at a supermarket is like 2k a month?! what the fuck is that bitch thinking??? she will rather see me working my ass of in a supermarket for a slave sallery, than doing real business, living a good life, and have time to do the things i love.

maybe they're jealous? usually when people put you down, it's because they're jealous!

honestly, 8k a month is what a lot of people dream about... so i don't see the problem... do what you think is best.

good on you, by the way! :D

Don't worry, all parents of all young members here do what your parents do.
Just show them how much you can make and tell them how you can do it so they won't call you "internet scammer".

LOL, a real 9 to 5 job where you constantly have to worry about some faceless corporation that may lay you off at anytime for any bullshit reason.. No thanks.. I prefer to control my own financial future, not put it in the hands of some douchebags looking to up production and decrease overhead costs by squeezing every penny they can out of you and where some fake f*cking smile in the process.

    A. Move out and get your own place. It can suck to move out at 17 but I did my last year in high school after I moved out and I was pulling in a whole lot less than 8k a month so it should be very doable.

    B. Pay her a big chuck of change each month for rent ($1k + or what ever it takes) and tell her and the rest of them to STFU. She starts getting used to a nice check from you each month and she will be a lot less likely to want you to quit.

    C. Tell her you have plenty of time to go back to college and you want to save up the cash first so you do not end up with a bunch of college loans to pay off when you graduate.

    D. If you can not get out from under her until you are 18 and C does not work then go back to school until you are 18 just to shut them up and then move out and tell them to STFU at that time. You should be able to find some useful classes to take for a semester or two if you need to. There are plenty of business, programming, and accounting type classes that can useful in the IM world so you time will not be completely wasted.

There are a lot of people out there with that "is not a real job" mindset, not much you can do about it other than ignore it as much as possible. In your case since you are only 17 it may be harder to separate yourself from the negativity. Separate if you can but if not minimize it until you can and then run like hell.

I'm only 17. And i cant move out before i'm 18 unless i can get some social authoritys to back it up for some crazy reason. Like they are hitting me or something.

That sucks. Where do you live?

Your best bet then is probably D from my last post. Taking some classes for a year is going to be much better than busting your ass in a supermarket. Just try and take as many useful classes as possible if you can so it is not a complete waste of time.

Maybe I'm the the only one with common sense so far... or maybe you guys know something I don't.

But your parents are right. Not about the internet being a scam or getting a job thing, but it definitely isn't a bad idea to have an education to fall back on.

I'm a few years older than you. My 11th and 12th grade year of highschool, I cleared $120k and thought I was invincible... I dropped classes and concentrated on IM full time... then along came the google banhammer.

They sure do know how to shit on your parade...

Don't put all your eggs in one basket unless you ABSOLUTELY KNOW you have a 100% futureproof plan to make consistent money.
