Amazing journey! I wish you the best with the new kid!

Could you please help me out with a few questions? Please feel free to not answer anything that you are not comfortable with

1. How much money have you spent so far?
2. How much money would be needed to get the tools to get this up and running (themes, plugins, keyword research software, Ahrefs/Semrush etc)
3. Would you know the estimated number of hours you have spent on this project so far?

The reason I ask is because I'm sort of in the same boat as you are in terms of my day job, and I'm trying to evaluate if I can earmark some money out of the monthly cheque and dedicate say x hours every week. Your numbers would definitely help me make this decision :)

Would people be interested if I showed my process in a video, from picking a keyword to using conversion.ai and SurferSEO to make an article?
(It would not be anything related from my site, but just in general how I go about creating my posts - it would be a generic keyword, people could even give me one as a test - something with a low enough volume like 100-500 would be decent to try and get as long as the search intent is good)

Just something I am thinking about, I could upload it on YouTube. It would take a bit, though, to find the time to record everything. If there is enough interest, I will do it. If not, I will just write about it.

This would be amazing. I can never seem to find good KWs that don't already have their top 10 SERPs occupied by other SEOs.
I will send you some keywords in a PM as a test? I don't really know if it would help though.

Damn yea I don't have access to SurferSEO so it does make it a bit harder for me hahaha.

For "Conversion AI long-form editor" you mean the "Sentence expander" or "Content improver"? I don't see any template named long-form editor

It's their pro unlimited plan that has access to it. If you are just on their basic plan, you won't see it.

1. Last year I spent $5635.05 and made $4261.51 (half the year and then like 3 months of like sub $300 income)

2. Price

Theme/Page Builder:
Oxygen - 247$ (CAD had full pack cheaper back then) It's now 229$ USD or you can just get a basic license for 129$ USD (their lifetime licenses)
DNS: Google - 17$ for the year (CAD)
Webhost: WP Engine - 320$ for 1 year (CAD) - Might be changing this to a diff host - Cloudways Vultr HF VPS) - I heard these are quicker and cheaper and better for the amount of traffic I'm getting anyways. I think WP Engine uses the 5$ Linode VPS boxes.
Email: Gsuite - 15.60$ / 1 month (CAD) - With Cloudways I might be able to get email hosting added on for 1$ per month, I'm still seeing it would be better.
Plugin: SEOPRESS Pro - 55.02$ / 1 year (CAD)
Plugin: AAWP - 56.13$ / 1 year (CAD)
Plugin: WP Rocket - 34.21$ / 1 year (CAD)
Grammarly: 190.59$ / 1 year (CAD)
SurferSEO: ~39$ / Month (CAD) - I got in super early so my hobby plans have all the benefits of higher plans just fewer queries.
Conversion AI: 125$ / Month (CAD - Pro Unlimited version) (this is a new addition this year instead of paying a copywriter like 200-300$ per month for posts so it saves me money in the long run)
SEMRush: ~135$ / Month (CAD)

3. Building the site is what took the longest, probably like 20 hours to move my articles/design a new website / get a new logo, etc. Once I got my template built for my pages on the site, it was easy to just fill in the content.

If I had to guess probably ~150-200 hours in total?

I'm assuming each post took 3 hours to optimize once I got it back from the writer and then creating the images/posts on my site and the AAWP product boxes, comparison charts, etc.

Then searching for new keywords was just seeing what my competition was doing and taking theirs as I can outrank them easily with a well-optimized post with some backlinks. I probably spent like 1 Hour per keyword doing research.

Thanks a lot for the information. Have you looked into using something like festinger's vault service to cut down on plugin costs? Not something that I have tried personally, but the BST looks great. You can maybe use a groupbuy too, but that would out your keywords to other people using the groupbuy so that's too risky.

that's a lot of investment in tools and such although I do assume they saved u a ton of time.

I don't like using Nul'd plugins or getting them from a 3rd party. I don't want to take a chance of anything hacking the site. I don't mind pay the devs for their hard work.

I'm not dissing his service or anything, it's just not for me.

The same thing with group buying, I thought about it, but I don't want people seeing what I'm looking for because some are easy keywords with good volume.

The expensive things are the tools to actually get my articles up and do the keyword research, everything else is a yearly purchase.

Like the Conversion AI costs 125 CAD per month, but getting a good writer to write 1 article for me costs the same thing. This way I can get like at least 2-3 articles a week with this instead which would save me money in the long run.

April 22nd, 2021 Update:

Was gone for about 5 days to my cottage with one of my sons to give the wife a break and relax with the kid away from everything. It felt nice and got to spend some time with my dad (grandfather for the kid) 4 wheeling and just enjoying the outdoors away from all this covid mess.

I wrote a ~1300 word article yesterday in about 2 hours and it is already ranking #4 (volume is low on it, but the item price is 500$ and 250$ - its an X vs Y product that are very similar) I barely optimized it in SurferSEO.

ranking.png

I'll see how it is doing in a week or 2 and then maybe push some backlinks to it in hopes it can get #1 (in front of youtube videos)

Money so far this month:
mtd.png

Seems the last week people have been just not buying as much as they usually do. I am hoping it bounces back as my rankings are better than they were the months I made over 1k$ +

I was able to migrate off WP Engine to a Vultr HF VPS server for 6$ a month and I am using SpinupWP to manage it so it comes to 22$/month instead of ~30$ something for WP Engine as my traffic is getting close to being over 25k on their platform and I would need to upgrade soon and the price is just ridiculous as the entry Vultr HF VPS server can handle that amount of traffic without issues.

The good thing is I will be able to get a 2nd site up and going on the same server (won't cost extra hosting $$$ as I can get more than 1 site on my server) that I'll probably go into detail on the tools I use and how I use them and where to get them.

I will keep doing some keyword research and try to get 1-3 more posts up before the end of the month.

Nice journey, brother-brother! Keep on going!

About Vultr HF VPS, do you need to setup everything by yourself?

It depends if you get a service that will manage it for you. With SpinupWP they pretty much set all the stuff for you besides migration and then you just need to do manual backups through their dashboard.

Alternatively, you can just use Cloudways (likely cheaper than what I'm doing and you get full support), but I did not want to provide my ID to a Pakistan Company.

How is conversion.ai treating you? I feel it's a deal compared to paying writers but I do spend my fair amount of time writing/editing. It probably balances out in the end.

Have you hardened the config of VPS? or does SpinUPWP take care of that too?

Yes it does. It takes care of the security aspect and takes care of the important updates/security updates. For the non-important updates, you need to get those yourself, though.

I have the same questions

It's treating me very nicely, but I have a process on how I use it and how I optimize my articles afterward. (I will be writing about my process on my new site in the upcoming future, I just need to get it up and going - it'll be a place where I keep case studies, results, guides, etc.)

They are always adding features and fixing issues that it has. The most notable one is adding 3 asterisks to get it to stop trying to flow your text/use similar text in the next part that you want it to generate.

They also integrated the Content Editor from SurferSEO (if you are a customer, you can use it in the long-form editor at the same time instead of copy/pasting it over)

I know they will be adding options to style the headings. And for SEO, they already added an option that allows you to get the AI to focus on 3 keywords. So it will add it in the text more often if possible.

I'm digging all the new bells and whistles, however, I wish they would fix the "filter" on the long form. Half the time the words I get dinged for aren't even explicit.

Why did earnings lowered bro? Was it the rankings?

The filter? Not sure what you mean by this?

No, my rankings are the highest they've been right now + more keywords getting ranked up.

It seems like either people are not buying anything or the trend of the product is going down and the volume of searches too.

It could be why my traffic has been steady for this month instead of going higher when I am ranking better.

If you have used the LONG FORM on Conversion AI and not encountered the "filter" I am amazed. It sensors words that it considers explicit. Once it does, the form you are typing on locks up and you can't type anything else on it, unless you rephrase or reword said content.

Sorry, I've never run into that issue using the long form of Conversion AI

It could be because I don't write anything explicit or don't use anything explicit?

Did you report the bug? Post it in their Facebook group to see if other people are having the same issue.

It’s a known bug and they are aware. You don’t have to type anything explicit, and that is the problem. Anywho, I’m having a good experience except for a few small kinks of that nature.

Have you guys looked into copysmith.ai? How does it fare against conversion.ai?
There is a good cost difference between the two.
