My backstory

I am 31 years old, I have a wife and a son and another kid on the way within 5-6 weeks.
As you probably can tell, my schedule is already busy enough as it is. It doesn't help I am lazy and I get easily distracted with things around the house which makes it hard for me to write content these days.

I'm hoping by starting one of these threads, I am able to get into a work regiment to keep it up to date at least on a regular basis.

How it began

Before this all began, I had started a website in July 2019. I had a couple of posts for it, but it was in a niche that I wasn't very knowledgeable about. (I am now though so that might become my 2nd project one day)

Fast forward to October 2019, I decided to start a new site that was more in line with my hobby. Because of that, it has been much easier to get going as I had more information and background in the niche itself.

I don't mind sharing that the current niche I have is in the tech/gaming related niche. This allowed me to find affiliates that have digital products that I could gain from. My site is only 9 months old.

Who Am I Hosted With?
I am currently with WPEngine. I am looking into WPXhosting at this time, but I am not sure yet if I will transition. WPEngine has been pretty good for me.

I had started the site with A2Hosting, but I had server responsiveness issues with them. It would take like 1 to 1.5 seconds for the first byte to even start loading. This added a lot of time for users to get to my page.

I even had random 503 errors at random times for no reason than the hosting just didn't bother to load my webpage. I would never recommend them for anyone, but I realize everyone's experience is different.

Which plugins do I use?
  • Oxygen (Page Builder - One-time fee, unlimited installs - not as bloaty as other page builders which helps load times)
  • SEOPress and SEOPress PRO (changed from The SEO Framework - highly recommend both)
  • WP Rocket (helps with page loading speeds, caching, etc. - Would also recommend Autoptimize for a free version of a plugin that does close to the same thing)
  • Imagify (optimize image size/quality for optimal loading times for images)
  • AAWP (Amazon affiliate plugin)
  • Flying Analytics (Hosting Google Analytics Locally)
  • Flying Scripts (execute Javascript on user interaction, helps loading times)
I don't use a security plugin, as I find those also affect load times for your page. I've talked with WPEngine and other hosts and came to the conclusion that the host should already be providing these types of services on the backend to protect the user.

Google PageInsight gives me a 94 for Mobile and 99 for Desktop
GT Metrics gives me A96%(Page Speed Score) and an A95% (YSlow Score)

How Many Posts Do You Currently Have/Words?
I currently have 17 posts on my site + 1 unpublished one (50% are on page 1, 35% on Page 2, 15% Page 3 and up)
The site likely has around 50k words to 75k words of content in total. (I don't have a word counter plugin - Doesn't grab Oxygen content)

I also have a couple of pages (not posts) that have over 5k words on them individually as these are massive guides to using the products.

Do You Use Any Services From BHW?

I'm currently trying to find good content writers at reasonable prices. (I'm very picky and don't like the way the majority of writers write, and I can tell from a glance at their samples what I will usually end up with)
I found 1 writer already and I'm hoping to have another lined up after I give him an article to write

I had tried a PBN from @tiiberius which did have favorable results. But I made the personal decision to stay away from PBNs (His PBN got results and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a PBN)
I've used the Niche Edits from @MisterF and had a favorable outcome and would also recommend his services for niche edits.

There are other services I have lined up for the time being but I am waiting for them to finish and then for everything to take effect before reviewing them.

You can check my profile for all my reviews, I link to them and they are usually pretty thorough.

I will post and be transparent about which services I've used and their results in my profile information and in this thread.

How is the site monetized?

Amazon Affiliate
Digital Product Affiliates (2 so far, working on a 3rd in the next month or so)

Current GSC Stats:
October 2019 - December 2019

Oct-Dec2019.JPG

January 2020 - March 2020
Jan-Mar2020.JPG

April 2020 - June 2020
Apr-Jun2020.JPG

Amazon Income up until now:

I didn't start seeing any click to my amazon links until the end of March 2020 - I was legit going to just let the domain expire as nothing was going on.
Once I saw people clicking on my amazon links (which I didn't have on all my pages, I decided to properly update them and then as you can see in April was a nice confidence booster)

Amazon Income until now.JPG

That's pretty much it for now, I am hoping to push some more content out to get more users to my site. I am averaging now between ~200 to ~300 users daily which is pretty awesome.
I'm hoping to be able to double that in the next months or so.

Don't forget that I maybe have 1-2 hours max a day to work on anything. (This is usually me optimizing my posts even more)

This will be a slow journey as I push out content very slowly - Like maybe 2-6 Posts per month. I don't just spam content out in hopes it ranks, I optimize every post properly for SEO.

Slow and steady wins the race - I don't need to rush this. I have a stable job to support this endeavor and now I also get to work from home which I always wanted.

Thanks for reading. If you have any questions ask away and I will try to answer to the best of my ability.

I'm not very familiar with amazon, 3 questions:
1- So do you get paid when people click on the links to amazon or when people buy the products on these links on amazon?
2- Can the site be none amazon too? or should it be just for amazon and they won't accept any other type of advertising?
3- Where do you get all the visits from? google?

Looks, good mate. I have a similar site going need to stop being lazy and build out the articles though. Seem a few sales trickle through and amazon has accepted me.

It's a shame they've reduced the commission rate so much. Are you going to run Adsense on the site too?

Thanks,
Luke

Thanks! My time will definitely get even more limited. I'm hoping to show that even without too much time/spamming content, people can still achieve their goals.

Good luck.

You are already on a good way.

Thanks!

good luck with your journey
congratz on your upcoming baby
hope the baby brings you a lot of happiness

My current son is my pride and joy :) But now there will be two of them.... oh god what have I done.

Good luck. Wanna start Amazon affiliate too

Get going :p - if you think of it as a longer project it's not as stressful.

I'm not very familiar with amazon, 3 questions:
1- So do you get paid when people click on the links to amazon or when people buy the products on these links on amazon?
2- Can the site be none amazon too? or should it be just for amazon and they won't accept any other type of advertising?
3- Where do you get all the visits from? google?

1 - I get paid a commission on what people buy on amazon after I send them there with my link - They can buy anything they want within 24 hours and I will get the commission (while my cookie is active) - If they click someone else's affiliate link within that time frame, I won't get anything.
2 - I don't quite get the question, but I'll guestimate it. You can make site that arent amazon affiliate as there are plenty of other affiliate opportunities out there. I just haven't found one that converts as well. For my site I use more than just amazon for affiliates, but I don't include those in my money figures for the site and they are a digital product supplier.
3 - Yes mostly Google searches and maybe like 1-10 so far from social media/direct links. This is only based on GSC - there might be more through other search platforms that I don't see - My webhost shows way more traffic than what GSC shows (like an extra 100 users per day)

Thats a good start and how I decided to keep going. Saw some amazon traffic and decided to update my links and boom, had some sales and then things took off.

Hi, nice stats! Thanks for sharing. What are your articles about? Top x best y and product x vs y?

I have a lot of How To's, regular Guides but most of my money ones are product x vs product y and a couple of top x best

Good luck man. Following

Thanks :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!
Oxygen (Page Builder - One-time fee, unlimited installs - not as bloaty as other page builders which helps load times)
I am also looking to switch to Oxygen. It´s hard, I´ve spent a lot of time getting to know Elementor + Elemento Pro + A few addons but I do agree the difference in terms of how Elementor, Divi, Beaver, Brizy and all other page builders bloat a site´s code in comparison to Oxygen is just ridiculous.

I know for a fact Oxygen learning curve is a lot more steeper than on Elementor. I think Elementor is the most user-friendly page builder in the market but, I´ve also been told you need to know basic CSS in order to properly use Oxygen...Is this true?
vSEOPress and SEOPress PRO (changed from The SEO Framework - highly recommend both)
Mmmm, I will have to check those out! I am currently using RankMath and I just love it!!
WP Rocket (helps with page loading speeds, caching, etc. - Would also recommend Autoptimize for a free version of a plugin that does close to the same thing)
I´ve been getting great results with this Combo...
  • WP Rocket - For caching
  • Autoptimize - Minification and deferred of CSS and JS (This feature is a lot more robust on this plugin)
  • Asset Clean Up - You can disable any plugin JS inserted on any particular page from even loading in the first place.
Or, you can try @FatBee approach and manually disable them.

The more I think about it, switching to Oxygen seems like the best idea :D :p
Flying Analytics (Hosting Google Analytics Locally)
Flying Scripts (execute Javascript on user interaction, helps loading times)
I wasn´t aware of these plugins.

How are you approaching to content creation? What % are informational-based articles? commercial? What is your interlink strategy?

Yeah, niche edits are awesome! Don´t even do it though, it´s weird how Google hasn´t done anything against niche edits.

Have you considered starting to monetizing through Ads?

This is a great journey. Thanks for sharing. You're lucky the clicks started coming in before your assets expired. You probably would have killed the project, not knowing it's a gem. Patience plays a very important role in IM. Patience is key.

I'll try to answer everything in a couple of sentences/paragraphs.

I made the swap to Oxygen from Elementor/Pro and its likely the best thing I've ever done. I don't really know much about CSS to boot either. I learned quite a bit playing with Oxygen though. To be honest, it's simple enough and they have a Facebook group that you can ask questions on and get help pretty quickly. Their support is cool too as you can create a scenario in a sandbox and send them a link to it (All done on their site) and you can see how they fix things as you have access to that link/sandbox.

I've used WP Rocket and Autoptimize side by side before and didn't really notice much of a difference than just using WP Rocket on its own. Your mileage may vary.

Those Flying plugins are pretty sweet and I was pretty happy when I found them.

I tried to look for scraped articles but out of the people who tried to find stuff for me had issues and the stuff they did find wasn't very relevant. I'm not a fan of re-writing articles either, Most of the time your readers can tell and based on who wrote it, sometimes it makes like no sense.

Niche edits so far are my favorite as you get more bang for your buck than Guest posts. The guest posts however I find are more tailored to your exact keyword. Niche edits are more general. I think it hasn't been hit yet by google as if there is any sense of relevancy it would be tricky for them to explain those links don't fit the content, etc.

I had tried to set my site up with Adsense, but google wouldn't approve and they would not list why. I even made sure I had everything they asked, TOS, Privacy, etc. I think maybe I didn't have enough content in their eyes? But I've heard from other people they have just been getting denied to since the start of this whole COVID Pandemic. I might just wait for more traffic and try to join a different Ad Network.

This is a great journey. Thanks for sharing. You're lucky the clicks started coming in before your assets expired. You probably would have killed the project, not knowing it's a gem. Patience plays a very important role in IM. Patience is key.

Patience is definitely the key point here. I also think my site made it out of the sandbox period or my articles finally started getting picked up by Google made a big difference too.

I think I am fairly good at finding good keywords and optimizing my content for it. But that's just my opinion.

I am happy though I didn't have to scrap this project.

Well, yeah, it´s the same if you hire a crappy writer to do the research and write an article from scratch. If, you don´t find a talented writer to rewrite something for you then, you will face the same issue.

I just find getting someone to rewrite something for me saves the research part and, therefore, the rewriting process are a bit cheaper.

Also, if you´re hiring someone to write you something from scratch, unless it´s an unique piece of content never shared before on the internet, it´s going to be similar to other results on the internet either way but that´s just my 2cc on the topic.

Yeah, I was just about to comment there are other options besides AdSense. I think you can generate more money than with affiliate products, especially coming from the Amazon Associates program.
I think I am fairly good at finding good keywords and optimizing my content for it.
What do you use to optimize your content? Surfer SEO?

What do you use to optimize your content? Surfer SEO?

I use Surfer to help optimize my SEO on-page, but sometimes that only gets you so far after you need to start getting backlinks based on competition.

The other writer I wanted to test is taking a long time replying to me and like replies once a day and vanishes, I am considering just giving up on him and moving on. It sucks since his sample fits with how I want my posts to be. Might be a bit more patient.

Sounds like your off to a great start, I wish you the best and congrats on the baby on the way!

Definitely a good start and thanks! I am hoping to just slowly take this higher, I'm not in a rush.

Yours must be competetive niche , i hope you ranking for difficult keywords

Niche isn't that competitive yet, I am ranking for some good keywords.

July 3, 2020 Update:

I was able to publish another post, nothing big, its likely around 800-1000 words worth of content.

I did my keyword research, but this post will likely need to be optimized. I just want to see if it even ranks first.

If it does rank, I will see if it stabilizes in an area, let's say rank 28-36, etc. If it stays in that range for a while, it means its stable content.

Then I can optimize it (On-Page SEO - add/remove content if needed) and start getting internal links/backlinks/guest posts/niche edits to it if needed.

If it does not rank anywhere in the top 100, I will need to verify my content matches up properly with what google's user intent is or get some smaller backlinks to point to it to see if it does anything.

Cool, I'll be following! Good luck!

Awesome, glad to hear!

Love the specifics of your journey, could help plenty of others in the future!

I will definitely be checking in on this :)

Cheers, OP!

Great

I hope I provide enough value from this thread for you and everyone else that might want to follow along.

July 5, 2020 Update:

I was able to finally get in touch with the 2nd writer I wanted to try and was able to get him to start writing my article. He was able to provide me with his email which really helped speed things up.
(Guessing he had issues getting notifications from the site based on his answer as his replies from emails were near-instant)

Services:

I also decided to buy 2 Starter packs from @Peter Ngo - His service is here - Serptextual 2020
I tried to point these packages on 2 of my inner pages to see if helps them stop shifting around the SERPs so often. Once the work is done, I'll see what happens in a couple of weeks. (I will leave a review and link it in this thread + my profile)

I also had gotten this service from @Aim100IM - Their service is here - Monster White - 5 EDU Guest Posts
I pointed these also to my inner pages where I want the better-ranking pages to get a nice bump. (I have a lot of backlinks already pointed to my main homepage, so this will help diversify them a little + hopefully give me a nice boost)

Things I need to do now:

I also had a product delivered from a company that wanted me to do a review, so I have to get that done sometime this week. I got it on Friday.

Sometime today (hopefully), I will be looking at some of the keywords that I have and see if I can get another post or 2 written up sometime this week.

Busy busy!

Will definitely be checking in on this

Hope it doesn't disappoint.

I'm following this!

Sweet.

Great job, dude!

Thanks.

3.5k impressions in march w/o a sale?

As I said, I didn't really have my amazon links setup / they were still set up for an older associates account.
I wasn't looking much at this site as it wasn't really generating much. It wasn't until the end of March where I noticed I was getting traction and decided to update my links to see if anything came of it.
